At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive.
Data Science is at the heart of Lyft’s products and decision-making. Data Scientists at Lyft operate in dynamic environments, moving quickly to build the world’s best transportation solutions. We tackle a wide range of challenges—from shaping long-term business strategy with data, to making critical short-term decisions, to developing algorithms and models that power both internal systems and customer-facing products.
Lyft Business builds products that help organizations move the people who matter most—employees, customers, patients, and guests—easily and efficiently. Our offerings include Business Travel, Lyft Pass, and Concierge (for healthcare and non-healthcare rides), enabling companies to manage transportation at scale through APIs, integrations (e.g., Concur, Expensify), and dedicated tools. These platforms power high-impact B2B use cases across corporate travel, healthcare access, customer experience, and community programs.
We are seeking a Data Scientist to lead initiatives across the entire Lyft Business product suite. In this role, you will shape the vision, define the roadmap, and drive execution for data science projects that accelerate growth, improve operational efficiency, and deliver measurable value to our partners. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Design and Go-to-Market teams to build models, experimentation frameworks, and advanced analytics that inform strategy and power product innovation.
This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with direct influence on Lyft’s enterprise offerings. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in algorithm development, machine learning, causal inference, experimentation; strong business acumen in B2B contexts; and a proven track record of leading teams in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
Responsibilities:
- Lead multiple high-impact Data Science and ML initiatives across Lyft Business product areas (Business Travel, Concierge, Lyft Pass), operating in open-ended problem spaces and aligning work to multi-team goals.
- Define and implement decision frameworks, measurement strategies, experimentation designs, and causal inference methodologies that bring consistency and rigor to product and business decisions.
- Conduct deep, structured analyses across large-scale datasets to diagnose complex issues, quantify opportunities, and guide product, operational, and marketplace strategies.
- Serve as the primary cross-functional science partner for your product areas, shaping roadmaps, identifying risks, and influencing decisions through clear, data-driven recommendations.
- Build, refine, and scale monitoring systems and business health metrics, ensuring teams have reliable visibility into performance, anomalies, and long-term trends.
- Deliver integrated, high-quality analytical outputs spanning multiple projects while navigating ambiguity, cross-team dependencies, and open-ended scopes.
- Write efficient, clean, production-level code (Python, SQL), ensuring reproducibility, documentation, and long-term maintainability of analytical assets.
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Operations, Finance, and GTM, translating ambiguous business questions into structured analyses and measurable success criteria.
- Uplevel team decision-making, proposing new approaches, frameworks, and insights that improve product quality, customer outcomes, and operational efficiency.
- Mentor junior and mid-level data scientists, providing technical guidance, coaching, and structured feedback to elevate analytical quality across the team.
- Contribute to the Science community (hiring, onboarding, documentation, knowledge-sharing, tooling improvements), helping make Decision Science at Lyft more effective and scalable.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of industry experience in decision science, analytics, statistics, or data science, with a track record of influencing product and business outcomes through data.
- Demonstrated ability to independently own multi-project analytical scopes with ambiguous problem definitions and cross-functional integration.
- Expertise in: Experimental design (A/B testing) and causal inference frameworks, Metric design, diagnostic analysis, forecasting, behavioral analytics, Decision frameworks and measurement strategy
- Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and tools for data manipulation, statistical modeling, visualization, and reproducible pipelines.
- Ability to translate complex analytical insights into clear, actionable recommendations for both technical and executive audiences.
- Experience building and scaling monitoring systems and business health dashboards that identify anomalies, trends, and opportunities.
- Proven success driving alignment and influencing cross-functional teams in fast-paced, ambiguous, high-stakes environments.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and prioritization skills, including the ability to challenge assumptions, propose alternatives, and balance short-term vs. long-term tradeoffs.
- Demonstrated impact as a peer mentor, reviewer, and thought partner, elevating the quality of work across teams.
