Job Description

The Senior Communications Specialist I, under supervision, is primarily focused on internal communications. This position writes and assists in the production of informational and promotional materials, presentations and special events for the Engineering Research Office (ERO).


Responsibilities:

  • Writes and produces brochures, invitation, advertisements, flyers, newsletters, articles, speeches, reports and news stories, when applicable, about ERO-related activities.
  • Proofs, edits and updates information on the ERO intranet and the unit’s web presence.
  • Maintains a tracking system for project timelines and costs.
  • Develops and implements the overall communications goals for the ERO office.
  • Works with the Engineering Communications team for editing and design, as well as dissemination of news releases to the media.
  • Assists in promoting special events and programs. Generates communications strategies and develops related promotional plans, tactics, and materials.
  • Prepares executive correspondence, in collaboration with Engineering Communications team. Prepares complex presentations and displays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

Competencies:

  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.
