Responsible for leading the Procurement team, driving for supply chain efficiency of APMT in Port Elizabeth in New Jersey while driving engagement and excellency as Procurement professionals. Core focus is on enabling agility and reliability of our Terminal operations to deliver a valuable customer experience.
Role Overview:
The Senior Communications Advisor and Media Relations Lead for APM Terminals North America is a senior individual contributor role that is pivotal in increasing visibility and strengthening perception of APM Terminals across priority North America audiences. He or she has full accountability for the design and execution of integrated communication strategies and marketing communications activation, strengthening terminal visibility and perception across customers, government stakeholders, and communities — aligned to APM Terminals’ global brand and narrative. The scope covers the North American region, including APM Terminals Elizabeth (Port of New York/New Jersey), APM Terminals Pier 400 (Port of Los Angeles), and APM Terminals Mobile (Port of Alabama).
The role also provides direct communication support to the APM Terminals Americas Regional Managing Director, based in Panama City.
A core dimension of the role is close, day‑to‑day collaboration with Public Affairs to ensure cohesive positioning across media engagement, stakeholder communications, and government and community interfaces. The role is critical in advancing and activating local engagement plans at each terminal, shaping narratives that reflect local realities while reinforcing APM Terminals’ global strategy, values, and license to operate.
Core Responsibilities
1. Strategy, Planning & Global Alignment
Develop, maintain, and execute annual communication plans for the region and all three North American terminals, aligned to business priorities and the APM Terminals global communication, marketing and branding framework.
Build and sustain terminal-specific message maps, stakeholder frameworks, and narrative platforms; maintain document architecture discipline across strategic plans, execution trackers, and message maps.
Serve as the primary North America liaison to the Global Communication, Branding & Marketing team and coordinate with the APMM Communications Team for the Americas on intersecting Maersk/APM Terminals narratives.
Contribute North America content to global programs including corporate presentations, factsheets, and Annual Impact Reports.
Support the packaging and local activation of terminal value propositions (e.g., reliability, performance, decarbonization progress, landside connectivity) into audience-ready narratives for customers and government stakeholders.
2. Media Relations, Campaigns & Decarbonization Messaging
Serve as primary media relations lead across business and trade publications including WSJ, NY Times, FT, Reuters, Bloomberg, JOC, FreightWaves, AJOT, Supply Chain Dive, DC Velocity, Logistics Management, Automotive Logistics, Port Technology International and other trade outlets.
Build journalist relationships, manage proactive pitches, coordinate terminal tours and executive briefings, and develop press releases, backgrounders, media FAQs, and reactive statements.
Lead marketing communications campaign strategy and execution in support of commercial objectives — BCO acquisition, carrier positioning, and rail service expansion — including earned/owned/shared/paid channel choices, messaging frameworks, and editorial partnership recommendations.
Lead external sustainability communications, translating technical program data into public-facing narratives anchored to verified proof points
Manage media buys, editorial partnerships, and sponsored content placements in coordination with terminal commercial teams.
Identify and develop thought leadership angles (e.g., supply chain resilience, port performance, decarbonisation proof points) and translate them into pitches, op-eds, speaker opportunities, and editorial partnerships.
3. Executive, Internal & Digital Communication
Provide speaker preparation, panel briefing, message maps, Q&A frameworks, and talking point development for terminal Managing Directors and senior leaders at industry conferences including TPM and JOC events.
Support the Americas Regional Managing Director with stakeholder messaging, regional town hall facilitation, and ad-hoc communications needs.
Develop internal communications infrastructure across terminals: newsletters, SLT cascade frameworks, digital displays, town hall formats, and frontline stand-up message cards.
Deploy and manage enterprise tools — Microsoft Viva Engage, SharePoint, Sway — and build AI tools via Copilot to enable colleagues to self-serve communications needs.
Develop functional content briefs and handoff frameworks for terminal social media teams, ensuring Tone of Voice compliance and vocabulary governance without requiring finished copy from the communications lead.
Act as a local steward of brand standards, ensuring social, stakeholder, and campaign outputs reinforce APM Terminals’ desired positioning while staying credible and evidence-based.
Track and report campaign and communications impact using pragmatic metrics (reach/engagement, message pull-through, sentiment signals, and outcomes like event attendance or inbound opportunities).
4. Issues & Confidential Communication
Manage communication sequencing for technology announcements, ensuring negotiated milestones gate external releases and internal and external messaging remain aligned.
Develop and maintain communication strategies for confidential business development projects, including greenfield terminal development and strategic port partnerships, with strict information compartmentalization and source discipline.
Manage crisis and issues communications in coordination with terminal leadership, global communications, and APMM public affairs teams. Apply rigorous source discipline.
Candidate profile
The preferred candidate is a senior communications professional with 15+ years’ experience in complex, asset‑heavy or regulated industries, ideally ports, logistics, transportation or infrastructure. They bring proven end‑to‑end accountability for integrated communication strategies across multiple locations and is comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor.
The preferred candidate has deep media relations expertise with strong relationships across top‑tier business and trade media, and a track record of running proactive and reactive campaigns that support commercial, reputation and sustainability objectives. He or she is highly skilled at translating complex operational and technical topics into clear, credible public narratives grounded in evidence.
The preferred candidate is an experienced partner to Public Affairs, able to align media, stakeholder, government and community communications into a cohesive external position that protects and strengthens license to operate. He or she is a trusted advisor to senior leaders, with strong experience in executive messaging, speaker preparation, issues management and confidential communications
The preferred candidate is structured, autonomous and disciplined, with strong judgment, high standards for message architecture and documentation, and the ability to work calmly under pressure. Digitally fluent, he or she is comfortable deploying enterprise communication tools and leveraging AI to enable scalable, self‑service communication.

Salary: USD 170,000.00 - 190,000.00

The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for this position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws
