About the Role
The Senior Commissioning Editor develops, commissions, and manages authoritative legal and professional content across print and digital platforms. The role requires strong editorial judgment, legal domain awareness, and the ability to leverage AI tools responsibly and effectively.
Responsibilities
Develop editorial strategies that align with current legal market trends, regulatory changes, and the needs of practitioners, identifying content gaps to commission materials that advance thought leadership and provide practical guidance.
Commission, brief, and manage expert contributors—including legal professionals and subject specialists—ensuring all content is accurate, insightful, and adheres to house style.
Oversee the entire editorial workflow, from sourcing material to editing, revisions, and rigorous fact-checking for both legal and stylistic accuracy.
Coordinate the production and release schedules for print, newsletters, and online formats, adapting content for multiple platforms and optimizing digital material for search engine visibility.
Collaborate with design, production, and digital teams to ensure high-quality content presentation and timely delivery across all channels.
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders—including law firms, regulators, academics, and industry groups—while managing contributor agreements and negotiating fees as needed.
Ensure all published content meets stringent legal, ethical, and compliance standards, utilizing analytics to enhance commissioning decisions and optimize content performance.
Leverage AI tools to support research, content planning, and workflow efficiency, critically evaluating AI-generated outputs for accuracy, and staying updated on emerging technologies relevant to legal publishing.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in law, Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline
3–5+ years of editorial experience in legal, regulatory, or professional publishing
Strong understanding of legal concepts and ability to manage technical subject matter
Proven skills in editing, commissioning content, and project management
Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), analytics platforms, and AI-powered editorial tools (including content analysis, summarization, and research support)
Exceptional attention to detail and strong stakeholder management capabilities
