Job Description 

The Business Practices Officer is a strategic leader responsible for embedding ethical business practices and a culture of integrity across the organization. This role ensures that local operations adheres to global compliance standards, regional frameworks, and local regulations.  The BPO supports risk mitigation efforts and drives continuous improvement through audits, training, and policy alignment and acts as a strategic advisor to business units, enabling compliant business performance while fostering a proactive compliance culture.  TheBusiness Practices Officer will be based in Hong Kong and reports to the Commercial Operations Director in Hong Kong and Macau.   

Key Responsibilities:  

Business Practice Governance 

  • Expert in Global Standards, systems and processes and have sound knowledge of business operations 

  • Lead implementation of business practice frameworks. 

  • Conduct regular monitoring (e.g., EmpowerBI), self-audit checks on Veeva events, and risk mitigation actions. 

  • Support Enterprise Risk Assessments and compliance sub-certifications. 

  • Act as primary liaison for business units (e.g., Oncology, Vaccines, Pharma) on policy guidance and HCP/HCO engagement reviews. 

  • With the support of the Managing Director and Country Leadership Team and International Legal and Compliance to embed accountability and ownership into the Business Units and day to day operations. 

  • Strategic oversight of business practices to proactively identify areas of focus for risk management as well as areas to simplify processes and procedures. 

  • Speak up skill to identify risks and ensure transparency of adherence to company standards is visible to the Managing Director and leadership teams at all time.  

  • Communicate at all levels across the organization in a way that resonates with business leaders and end users. 

Policy & SOP Implementation 

  • Align global standards with local guidance documents and support their development, review & communication. 

  • Serve as the guardian of all local business practices related policies and procedures that include business risk controls. 

  • Maintain business practice documentation and relevant repositories (e.g. SharePoint). 

  • Provide interpretative guidance and support simplification initiatives (e.g., Veeva system updates). 

  • Localize and implement global standards, Code of Conduct and Business Practices policies. 

Risk Management & Monitoring 

  • Lead the facilitation and support the Enterprise Risk Management process under the direction of the Managing Director. 

  • Support the Managing Director Compliance Certification. 

  • Use tools like EmpowerBI, Veeva event self-audits, and GOVerify to track compliance metrics. 

  • Facilitate assurance checks with 3rd party vendor and review observations with IL&C. 

  • Manage business risk control programs for alliance partners, including KPI sampling and documentation reviews. 

  • Act as primary point of contact for MCAAS and assist market leadership team with remediation actions. 

Training & Awareness 

  • Deliver onboarding and annual business process training. 

  • Promote a speak-up culture and ensure non-retaliation policies are upheld. 

  • Tailor training to local teams and measure effectiveness. 

  • Support the cascade of compliance messages through Managing Director and leadership team. 

  • Provide real-time guidance on promotional activities, HCP/HCO engagements, sponsorships, and third-party interactions. 

  • Participate in governance forums and review boards. 

  • Support business in navigating complex business practice scenarios. 

Due Diligence Oversight 

  • Advise on due diligence and business risk assessments for vendors and distributors. 

  • Train key stakeholders on due diligence processes and systems for vendors and individuals. 

Reporting & Metrics 

  • Facilitate the monthly Country Compliance Committee in conjunction with the Managing Director. 

  • Prepare business risk dashboards and reports for regional BPO. 

  • Track completion of HH Compliance Goals. 

Privacy 

  • Serve as a Privacy Steward to play a critical role in supporting the effective local implementation and operational oversight of the Company’s Privacy Program. 

Required Skills, Knowledge, Experience, Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, Accounting, Statistics, or related field (preferred). 

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in compliance, business risk management, legal, audit, finance, or comparable business experience in healthcare industry.    

  • High ethical standards and strong business acumen. 

  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and build cross-functional relationships. 

  • Analytical mindset with ability to prioritise and structure work aligned to strategic goals. 

  • Strong expertise in all compliance related aspects, including local healthcare laws, regulations, procedures, policies and SOPs; awareness of international guidelines and rules  

  • Excellent understanding of pharmaceutical companies’ infrastructure and processes  

  • Full awareness of activities that are subject to mandatory disclosure between pharmaceutical companies and HCPs/HCOs, together with their underlying processes, source systems and data flows  

  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skill in English and Cantonese 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience in a matrixed, multicultural environment. 

  • Experience in Audit and or financial controls 

  • Familiarity with digital tools and data analytics. 

  • Certification in compliance, business risk or ethics (e.g., SCCE, IAPP)
