The Canadian Depository for Securities (CDS) serves as Canada’s national securities depository, clearing, and settlement hub, providing the vital infrastructure required to support the integrity and efficiency of the Canadian capital markets. Within this ecosystem, the Business Operations and Portfolio Management team is the engine driving strategic and tactical management of the business portfolio to meet regulatory, industry, and enterprise requirements and priorities. We act as the central pillar for managing CDS’s portfolio of initiatives, enabling effective performance of business operations, meeting of regulatory requirements, and assessment of opportunities to enhance the overall business effectiveness of CDS, fostering deep collaboration across technology, finance, product management, risk management, and operations to propel economic growth.


As a Senior Business Analyst, you are a high-maturity solution architect who transforms ambiguity into action. You will proactively navigate complex environments to drive progress. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Operations Governance & Oversight you will support the development of requirements for a number of initiatives that align with CDS’s strategic objectives and identify opportunities to streamline operational processes. 

This role is hybrid (2-3 days/week in the office) - based in Toronto, ON. 


Key Accountabilities:

  • Drive Business Documentation: Own the creation of high-level business requirements, impact analyses, and standard operating procedures to align stakeholders on strategic goals.

  • Portfolio Management:  Support execution of key initiatives ensuring every project maps to CDS’s long-term growth.

  • Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary "connector" between internal experts (Technology, Finance, Product Management, Operations and Risk) and external stakeholders (Regulators, Clients) to facilitate shared purpose.

  • Navigate Complexity: Simultaneously manage multiple high-priority initiatives, maintaining momentum even as priorities shift or tasks remain undefined.

  • Architect Solutions: Research and create structured delivery plans for new initiatives where standard operating procedures do not yet exist.

  • Proactive Risk Mitigation: Identify operational inefficiencies and apply your expertise to propose actionable, well-reasoned business solutions.

Must Haves:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in financial services, capital markets, or post-trade operations.

  • Educational Background: Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, complemented by a Business Analyst designation/certificate.

  • Superior Documentation Skills: Proven track record of drafting detailed business requirements and operational procedures for non-technical audiences.

  • High-Performance Execution: Ability to operate with significant autonomy and "steer" initiatives through uncertainty.

  • Exceptional Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders at all levels of the enterprise.

  • Analytical Rigor: Strong analytical skills with the ability to extrapolate business intelligence from complex data sets.

  • Market Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Canadian Securities Industry (Equities/Fixed Income) 

  • Project Experience: Understanding of the project lifecycle (PMO/Portfolio frameworks) and experience working on cross-functional initiatives.

Nice to Haves:

  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC) certification.

  • Proficiency with Jira, ServiceNow, or advanced Portfolio Management tools.

Salary Range: $80,000/year - $90,000/year CAD.
