The Opportunity

The incumbent in this position serves as the leader of the Hazy Library, overseeing and coordinating access to library resources, services, and technologies for Prescott Campus students, faculty, and staff. The Sr. Associate Director is also responsible for leading the Hazy Library's growth and contributions toward centralized library operations with Hunt Library in Daytona Beach, in support of a parity of academic resources across all ERAU campuses.  This leader oversees three Library departments: Access Services, Technologies and Information Resources, and Research and Instruction via supervising three Associate Library Directors who comprise the Management Team.  Key areas of responsibility include personnel management, budget administration, policy development, space planning, and strategic envisioning for growth, direction, and resource allocation.  The Sr. Associate Director reports to the University Librarian and guides Hazy Library in alignment with ERAU initiatives in support of the One University operational philosophy.     

Duties

Leadership

-Provide overall leadership and management of Library resources, services, and spaces in overarching support of the ERAU curriculum and student and faculty success

-Maintain knowledge and implement relevant best practices in higher education and academic librarianship

-Advocate for the Library and inform and collaborate as needed with colleagues in administration, student affairs, Information Technology, and academic colleges and departments

-Maintain a safe and effective library environment that meets the needs of students, faculty, and staff

-Work collaboratively with the University Librarian and lead effective departmental teams who can work collaboratively within Hazy Library and with their counterparts in Hunt Library

Personnel Management

-Maintain and demonstrate knowledge of Human Resource policies and processes impacting personnel

-Write position descriptions, conduct annual evaluations, and make merit increase recommendations

-Continuously improve by setting and resetting expectations for effective work behaviors and contributions

-Respond to personnel challenges with with acuity and in concert with Human Resource colleagues

-Establish a culture of communication in all directions, and cultivate highly functioning Library teams

Strategic Planning and Assessment

-Develop, maintain, and administer a Library strategic plan in alignment with the ERAU system of libraries and institutional strategic plans and initiatives

-Envision, coordinate, and lead the Library's administrative assessment plan and make necessary annual adjustments

-Oversee and lead staff in the ongoing management and reporting of statistics and data

-Develop and maintain knowledge of institutional and departmental accreditation standards and write reports as needed

-Prioritize Library contributions within available human and financial resources

Outreach and Impact

-Serve on campus-wide committees and teams as needed or requested

-Identify and engage in productive partnerships across the institution where Library contributions make sense and add value

-Promote Library events and initiatives on the wider campus

-Work with the University Librarian to establish and maintain a robust community of practice between library staff members across the ERAU campuses

Budget Administration

-Administer the Hazy Library budget according to institutional Finance policies and procedures

-Regularly review polices and procedures while engaging in monthly budget tracking

-Forecast needs and make capital and operational requests in line with the libraries and institution

-Oversee and assess the budget for ongoing library needs related to print materials, electronic resources, curriculum changes, and teaching and research initiatives

Supervisory responsibilities

Supervises four direct reports: the Associate Library Director for Access Services, the Associate Library Director for Technologies and Information Services, the Associate Library Director for Research and Instruction Services, and the Library Administrative Specialist.

Other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor

**This job requires a regular, 40-hour per week schedule with occasional evening or weekend work driven by library or campus events or initiatives.  Professional development travel is supported, and occasional travel to the Daytona Beach campus may be required.**

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a leader in an academic library setting
  • Leadership: in-depth knowledge of the varied components of leading and managing complex library operations; ability to work effectively in a multi-campus environment
  • Change Management: the ability to lead and manage in a rapidly changing higher education environment and envision local changes in alignment with institutional growth
  • Experience in managing and administering an academic library budget
  • Supervisory Skills: the ability to lead and manage personnel, and support direct reports in doing so, with knowledge of established policies and procedures within the Library and Human Resources
  • Technological Acumen: an understanding of key library technologies, including integrated library systems, electronic collections, and hardware and software related to access and discovery
  • Envisioning and Innovation: the ability to envision, discuss, and create new opportunities for the Library to contribute to student and faculty success
  • Experience with academic library strategic planning
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and apply data to inform assessment, strategic planning, resource allocation, and service improvements
  • Project Management: skill in determining priorities, establishing a course of action, assessing resources, and executing initiatives according to a set timeline
  • Customer Service: the ability to lead with the knowledge that students and faculty are customers and their success is fundamental to the Library's mission
  • Professionalism: skill in promoting an academic library within the institution by serving as an ambassador for Library service and impacts to the wider campus community as well as to all ERAU campuses
  • Five or more years of experience in academic library leadership are required
