What is the opportunity?

RBC’s Global Manager Research (GMR) team provides investment manager research and due diligence in support of RBC’s global businesses and distribution platforms. The broader team consists of investment professionals located in Minneapolis, Toronto, Asia and London and conducts initial and on-going research, analysis and due diligence of investment management firms offering mutual funds, separately managed accounts, exchange-traded funds, and sub-advisory relationships. As a Senior Investment Research Analyst, you will be responsible for overseeing a list of approved managers as well as reviewing new managers for our platform.

What will you do?

  • Initial and ongoing due diligence and analysis related to the firm and product structure, portfolio management, investment approach, as well as performance of multiple investment products
  • Provide clear and timely insight, information, and opinions on investment managers though published reports and verbal/audio communication channels
  • Deliver meaningful and timely insight, information, and recommendations for action to appropriate investment committees for all assigned investment managers and products
  • As appropriate, represent Global Manager Research internally and externally in individual and/or group meetings (e.g., branch office visits, symposiums, conferences, and client meetings)
  • Assume an active role on investment committees, providing ideas and investment recommendations to support RBC's internally-managed multi-asset portfolio offerings across global businesses
  • Mentor and develop team members to strengthen research capabilities and provide leadership through actions, knowledge, and experience
  • Cultivate and manage strategic relationships with key internal and external partners
  • Foster cross-border collaboration across all four GMR teams and key stakeholder

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably with a concentration in accounting, business, economics, finance, math, and/or international studies
  • 10+ years of experience in investment manager research, due diligence, or a related investment role
  • Deep expertise in investment products and concepts, including manager research, portfolio management, asset allocation strategies, and investment structures (mutual funds, ETFs, managed accounts, and limited partnerships)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial markets and the investment industry
  • Current understanding of economic and market conditions
  • Proven ability to lead independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate high-level performance
  • Strong track record of delivering impactful presentations and recommendations to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Committed to continuous learning and skill development across organizational, business, and analytical domains
  • Strong attention to detail with rigorous analytical diligence

Nice-to-have

  • Advanced proficiency with investment analytical tools, such as Morningstar Direct, eVestment, and other research tools
  • CFA designation or working to obtain

The expected salary range for this particular position is $90,000-$160,000, depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.

You have the potential to earn more through RBC’s discretionary variable compensation program which gives you an opportunity to increase your total compensation, provided the business meets its performance targets and you meet your individual goals.
