What you’ll be doing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated applicant to join the Corporate & Institutional Banking Modelling team, which is part of Risk Science. Risk Science itself is a large collaborative team that thrives in a changing and fast paced environment. This role offers considerable scope for personal development, whilst building an in-depth knowledge of Corporate & Institutional Banking and its clients.

As an integral member of the team, you will contribute to the development, maintenance and validation of our diverse suite of Probability of Default (PD) models which are used throughout Corporate & Institutional Banking. These models play a key role in the calculation of regulatory capital, impairment, credit sanctioning, pricing decisions and portfolio reporting.

We're looking for a candidate with a numerical or statistical qualification to a minimum of degree level or equivalent or be qualified by experience. You’ll have strong written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of statistical modelling techniques and Python, SAS, SQL and other programming and data mining skills.

About Risk Science

Sitting within our Risk function, Risk Science is a centre of excellence for analytics, modelling and customer insights. The team support the wider Risk division by:

  • Delivering sophisticated data analytics and modelling to support commercial and corporate customer needs and credit decisions across the credit life cycle.
  • Supporting the bank’s prudential requirements such as capital and impairment allocation, and capital optimisation.

We work with data that underpins vital business decisions, and together we make it possible to add customer value, control risk, and help to build a safe, strong bank for our customers.

In Risk Science we follow a clear set of principles which promote a positive, collaborative and creative culture. You'll find we're genuine about equal opportunity and deeply value diversity - all with a culture built around advancing the best in our people.

Some of the activities you'll be involved in are:

  • You’ll support the team to design, develop and deliver our PD models to meet regulatory and internal requirements and support model validations to ensure continued model performance.
  • Build relationships with business partners across the organisation to understand requirements and develop effective modelling and analytical solutions.
  • With experience, you’ll take ownership of your own projects and follow these through the end-to-end governance process. The governance process will involve you communicating and presenting at all levels to gain support and approval of models through strong stakeholder management.
  • You’ll provide quantitative and theoretical support to other team members and key partners.
  • Contribute to the development of the Risk Science team, sharing learning and knowledge and participating in team initiatives to build a positive team culture.

What we’re looking for?

  • Comfortable working with numbers and have either a good degree in a numerate subject or two years of quantitative experience gained in previous roles.
  • Two years of experience in the use of programming languages (e.g., Python, SAS, SQL) to manipulate data. Practical experience in statistical credit-risk modelling techniques and methods is also desirable, but training will be provided.
  • Analytical problem solvers, able to work creatively with data to draw out insight and answer business questions.
  • Effective communicators, building positive relationships with partners and communicating recommendations clearly to influence business decisions.
  • Well organised and able to manage their own workload while adapting to changing priorities.
  • Proactive in progressing their own personal development and collaborating with others to improve the culture of the wider team.
