As a Supervisory Equipment Specialist (Automotive), you will be responsible for the management and operation of one of the Fleet National Maintenance Control Centers. Location of position: General Services Administration, Federal Acquisition Services, Office of Travel, Transportation, and Logistics.

Major Duties:

  • Manages day-to-day operations of one of the National Maintenance Control Centers (MCC). Provides program direction and technical advice in the field of vehicle maintenance and repair for the Regional Fleet Maintenance Program. Provides direction and guidance on administrative, technical issues, policy matters, program objectives, and implementation plans. Analyzes maintenance factors that may impact operating costs, including incidence of breakdown by vehicle manufacturer and model; cost of maintenance by vehicle type and/or Fleet Management Center; premature part failure due to inadequate maintenance. Forecasting, authorizing, and controlling assigned portion of the National MCC annual budget. Analyzes monthly financial reports and on-site observations to provide quality service to customers and improve efficiency. Coordinates and supervises all activities of the MCC, ensuring procurements of the warranted contracting officers meet contracting regulations, repair diagnosis are accurate, warranty rights are preserved, the highest level of services provided, payments are made as prescribed by regulation, and maintenance database is maintained promptly and accurately. Works closely with the Central Office Vehicle Management Division and the Purchasing Division and the automotive Commodity Center in Washington DC, large private fleet firms, and automotive and equipment manufacturers to identify and correct special mechanical problems and engineering defects. Stays abreast of the latest technological advances and new equipment built for the Government. Makes final decisions on work problems presented by subordinates and performs the full range of supervisory functions including: establishing, monitoring, and maintaining performance standards; initiating personnel actions for promotions, incentive awards, disciplinary measures, and overtime; implementing affirmative action plans and training plans; recruiting, interviewing and selecting new employees; approving leave; and insuring a safe workplace. We are currently filling two (2) vacancies, but additional vacancies may be filled.

The GS-13 salary range starts at $106,437 per year. Locality will be determined based on duty location. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience in the automotive field that includes: Evaluating preventative maintenance programs to ensure compliance with vehicle manufacturers' warranty and safety guidelines. Evaluating vehicle maintenance requirements and operational capabilities to determine appropriate costs. Reviewing vehicle modifications or new equipment to ensure compatibility with existing models.
