The position of Senior Analyst is within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics laboratory located at Abingdon, UK.
This role requires the individual to undertake operations within the screening and confirmation department. The analysis of drugs of abuse in biological samples is conducted by either immunoassay (CEDIA, HEIA and ELISA) or by confirmatory techniques (such as LC/MS/MS), or by a combination of both. Analysts must perform all analyses to appropriate safety standards, conform to current documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and must ensure that all analyses are conducted to the highest quality standards, whilst being completed in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Routine work
- Extractions
- Running Screening Instruments
- Daily basic equipment checks and maintenance
- Keeping lab up to safe and efficient working standards (i.e. checking expiry dates)
- Maintenance of screening instruments including making reagents and QC’s where appropriate
- Take part in internal/external audits
- Equipment validations (i.e. Heaters, Fridges, Freezers, Pipettes)
- Processing and 2nd review of instrument data
- QC trending and monitoring
- Scheduling the workload (Senior Analyst and instrument utilization)
- Maintenance of all instruments including making reagents
- Undertake and complete provided training modules and assessments
- Support the development and implementation of new processes and methods
- Act as a buddy for Trainee Analysts & Senior analysts/experienced analysts as required
- Preparation of standards, QCs and reference solutions
- Calculations of concentrations for standards, QCs and reference solutions where applicable
- Methods validations including plan and report writing as well as reviewing in Ensur
- Troubleshooting instruments (i.e. changing columns, replacing blocked probes or needles. Liaising with engineers to resolve problems without onsite visits. Organising onsite visits if required)
- Checking instrument SSTs and approving for use. Ensuring all instruments are performing correctly
- Training and mentoring of analysts/new senior analysts
- Relevant SOP updates
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION:
- Science Graduate, or equivalent experience
- Understanding of appropriate analytical equipment in order to troubleshoot assay problems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years prior experience in a laboratory environment
- Previous experience with the requirements listed in Responsibilities
- Previous experience within Quality, Health and Safety and team training
