The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Senior Administrative Director, Clinical Research Services to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                    

The SCCC Administrator serves as an advisor and consultant to senior leadership, develops strategic plans, and monitors the status of all current administrative and operational issues of a specific area of SCCC Research (for example, Shared Resources, Clinical Research Programs, Programmatic, Sponsored Programs, and/or specific high-level area. This position ensures compliance with all applicable external laws and regulations, and University policies and procedures. This position reports to the SCCC AVP Research Administration.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

  • Confers with SCCC clinical research, shared resources, or appropriate leaders and staff in solving administrative/operational and sometimes personnel problems to ensure that resources are properly staffed.

  • Oversees and develops the management of SS technologies, products, and services to facilitate interaction between researchers and SCCC members. 

  • Selects and uses appropriate software applications necessary to enhance scientific productivity.

  • Proposes budgets for approval, including those for funding or implementation of new services and/or programs.

  • Promotes multidisciplinary interactions and collaborations among all Sylvester’s research programs.

  • Handles human resource related issues, and is accountable for the hiring, disciplinary, termination and salary decisions. Develops plans to ensure that SCCC shared resources, clinical research services and/or assigned area provide economies of scale to generate revenues increase each year while limiting expenses. Acts as liaison between SCCC and other University departments.

  • Develops and implements formal training and development programs for leaders, staff, and users.

  • Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, implements and monitors controls.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Experience:  Minimum 8 years of relevant experience required.

Department Specific Functions: Working Title Sr. Executive Director, SCCC Clinical Research Services

The SCCC Clinical Research Administrator serves as the administrative leader for the entire Sylvester Clinical Trials Office. They serve as an advisor and consultant to senior leadership, develops strategic plans, and monitors the status of all current administrative and operational aspects of SCCC Clinical Trials Office. This position ensures compliance with all applicable external laws and regulations, and University policies and procedures. This position reports to the SCCC AVP Research Administration, with a dotted line reporting to AD, Clinical Research. A dotted line to the AD of Population Sciences supports the Director’s oversight and integration of the Population Sciences operational leadership to facilitate synergies and economies of scale across CRS and Population Sciences operations. This position will oversee all SCCC Clinical Research Services Administrative, Clinical Trials units and staff reporting to them at main campus and satellites. This includes three (3 Executive Directors for CTCU, Operations and Satellites). This position will also oversee the staff leader for the population sciences studies in the Office of Population Sciences and be integral in the growth of investigator initiated studies. The administrator will play a critical role in the administration of the CPDM and PRMS sections of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).

Provides operational and administrative oversight of all SCCC Clinical Research Services in alignment with Cancer Center leadership, the strategic plan and the needs of the Catchment Area.   Works closely with the AVP of Research Administration and SCCC Finance leader to oversee all Clinical Research Service funding. Supports Clinical Research Service leaders with continuous evaluation and improvement efforts, such as user surveys, progress reports, annual reviews. Plays a key role in setting scientific priorities, strategic direction and policy for Clinical Research . Enhances communication and collaboration between Clinical Research leaders Assess needs of current resources, technology and provides recommendations and/or resources in order to increase operational support Evaluates and advise existing and developing Clinical Resources leaders on strategy, service, funding, and fee structure Works closely with CC Administration on budget, financial and operations, space and other administrative matters related to Clinical Research. Chair a regular meeting with all Clinical Research staff to provide vision for the team, encourage staff retention and engagement, discuss operational issues and solicit recommendations Represents SCCC Clinical Research in SCCC meetings as well as in external meetings and/or conferences. Collaborates with SCCC leadership to ensure that SCCC Clinical Research are supporting and advancing cancer research for all CC members Collaborates closely with Oncology Service Line and standard of care teams to ensure smooth operations and mitigate roadblocks for research patient experience. Interacts with appropriate University committees and academic leaders to advocate for optimal, cost-effective access to CR services that advance the clinical research goals and mission of the CC, leveraging the resources and expertise of the entire University Promotes and reinforce the importance of acknowledging clinical research in publications and funding applications Provides an overview of Clinical research productivity and current state to AVP Research Administration, SCCC Director and Sr. Leadership. Leads SCCC Senior Leadership in assessment of ongoing relevance of existing CRs to members, identifying any gaps Elevate and grow the Population Sciences infrastructure, supporting a robust portfolio, with direction from the AD, Population Sciences and in alignment with the strategic plan of the Center. Support the AD, Clinical Research in the writing and preparing of the CPDM and PRMS sections of the Cancer Center Support Grant, and other reports, grant submissions, and presentations pertinent to clinical research operations and the strategic plan  Oversees all clinical research committee support (e.g., SDGs/CRTs, Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee, Data Safety Monitoring Committee) Oversees quality and training team to ensure staff are properly equipped, meeting national standards for clinical trials. Provides dotted line support of research nursing for administrative guidance and strategic planning Oversees clinical research lab operations to ensure optimal processes, billing and compliance. Responsible for the optimal time to trial activation metrics and improving the pre-PRMC timeline, study start up support and feasibility review. In alignment with faculty leaders, ensure optimal protocol development support to ensure optimal proportion of investigator-initiated studies. Lead relationship with the University of Miami’s Office of Research Administration, IRB, the offices of monitoring and auditing, and Clinical Research Management and Support Office. Work in alignment with Sylvester’s finance team to monitor financial management of clinical trials and lead discussions on ensuring best processes Work in alignment with Human Resources to ensure staff engagement, retention, team-leadership and proper staffing through development of business plans in alignment with Center strategic plan.  

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed funding to conduct independent cancer research, and publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Demonstrated track record of people-leading at an NCI designated Cancer Center
  • Demonstrated track record of strategic planning at an NCI designated Cancer Center
  • Experience in technology transfer.
  • Experience in scientific leadership role(s) in academia and/or industry
