The Senior Accountant, Lease Accounting role supports the company’s technical and operational lease accounting function to ensure complete and accurate financial close, internal, and external reporting, and the end-to-end lease cycle.
This position will help to ensure that the lease accounting policy (in accordance with US GAAP ASC 842) is executed and documented, along with appropriate governance, controls, and segregation of duties. This role is highly collaborative and highly visible given the lease accounting risk to the financial statements and important stakeholders (lease admin/legal, accounts payable, financial reporting, corporate accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, etc.).
Additionally, this role will partner with other functional teams, creating efficiency, automation, and standardization over the end-to-end process.
This position sits within our Atlanta based Global Support Center with an expectation to be onsite 80% of the time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support lease accounting process by maintaining proper accounting of activity in accordance with GAAP and in compliance with internal and external audits
- Liaise with other departments within the organization to ensure lease transactions are properly accounted
- Complete month-end close processes including subledger work in CoStar, general ledger adjustment and accrual entries, and internal financial reporting deliverables, including roll forwards, footnotes, and controls
- Prepare and/or review month-end journal entries and perform reconciliations and analysis of assigned accounts
- Perform analysis of legal documents, research technical literature, develop and document accounting treatment of complex transactions and determine lease classification in accordance with GAAP
- Provide detailed analysis to support FP&A, management, and the business.
- Train team members, including staff and seniors, and supervise their month-end and quarter-end closing procedures for the general ledger
- Perform ad-hoc projects to help analyze or support Company decisions
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”) preferred
- Minimum 3 years of public accounting or large multinational company accounting experience (property accounting experience preferred)
- Experience with general ledger accounting systems (Oracle Cloud preferred)
- Proficient understanding of US GAAP-based financial accounting (ASC 842, Lease Accounting, experience preferred)
