Summary

The Senior Account Executive for Market Access, Policy, Specialty and Retail Pharmacy serves as a strategic leader accountable for developing, directing, and executing market access, reimbursement, and policy strategies across the entire Puerto Rico market for Bristol Myers Squibb. In this role, the Senior Account Executive manages assigned key accounts, including PBMs, payers, wholesalers, specialty and retail pharmacies, and organized customers. Sets the vision and priorities for therapeutic area initiatives with department-wide impact. The role leads resource planning, financial management, and operational execution, ensuring optimal patient access and alignment with brand and enterprise objectives. As the principal policy and external affairs contact for Puerto Rico, the Senior Account Executive influences market access strategy, negotiates high-profile contracts, drives change initiatives, and maintains trusted relationships with government, industry, and internal stakeholders. This position is critical in shaping BMS’s success in Puerto Rico by advancing innovative solutions, championing compliance, and overseeing strategic outcomes for the department.

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Account Management:

  • Own strategic direction and outcomes for market access across Puerto Rico.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee departmental account strategies for all therapeutic areas, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities.
  • Cultivate and maintain trusted relationships with executive-level stakeholders at key customer organizations (PBMs, payers, pharmacies, organized customers).

2. Contracting & Reimbursement:

  • Executes negotiation and management of complex, high-value contracts across multiple high-profile accounts, ensuring final decisions are aligned with brand / portfolio strategies and financial projections.
  • Support departmental contracting and reimbursement planning; and monitor contract performance (i.e., quarterly business reviews).
  • Lead the development, execution, and approval of policies and processes to address strategic needs in compliance with FDA, CMS, and BMS standards at the department/market level.

3. Therapeutic Area Leadership:

  • Serve as the principal technical advisor for major therapeutic areas, guiding access strategy and mentoring professionals/managers in launch planning and market pull-through.
  • Lead the vision and execution of high-impact initiatives for multiple TAs, driving innovation and best practices at the market-wide level.

4. Policy Shaping & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Drive creation and execution of BMS’s policy strategy for Puerto Rico, representing the company to government, trade, and advocacy organizations (as applicable).
  • Build and leverage influential relationships across government, industry, and stakeholder groups, shaping market access outcomes for the market.
  • Advise teams on policy trends and implications for business strategy.

5. Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams and on large strategic initiatives, collaborating on resource planning, budget allocation, and operational strategy with senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Drive team development and knowledge-sharing, facilitating best practice adoption and high-impact performance.
  • Represent the department in regional and enterprise-level committees and workgroups.

6. Operational Excellence:

  • Own operational performance for market access in Puerto Rico, developing risk mitigation plans, business continuity strategies, and operational change management initiatives.
  • Oversee department-level solutions for contracts, material development/adaptation, and other complex operational issues.
  • Ensure department-wide adherence to BMS compliance processes, supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence through team leadership.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, healthcare, public policy, finance, or related field, strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-8 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical sales, market access, brand/franchise leadership, or related fields, with proven team leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing market access strategies such as contract negotiations and reimbursement planning within Puerto Rico’s healthcare ecosystem.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing healthcare policy initiatives and building influential relationships with key stakeholders aligned with key strategies, strongly preferred.  
  • Knowledge and experience working with both specialty and retail product distribution partners, preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, and consultative skills, with the ability to influence across levels and functions.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive strategic initiatives, and deliver operational excellence.
  • Experience in therapeutic areas such as immunology, neurology, psychiatry, cardiology, oncology, and hematology, preferred.
  • Fully bilingual (English/Spanish); proficient in Microsoft Office and modern analytical/digital tools.

Compensation Overview:

Field - Puerto Rico - PR - US: $115,890 - $140,430

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
