About the Opportunity

The 4D Technical Lead will act as a senior technical specialist in 4D modelling and digital construction, with a clear pathway to becoming a recognised technical authority within the organisation. The role is designed for a highly technical individual who wants to shape how 4D and wider digital delivery practices evolve, while remaining closely connected to real project delivery.

Reporting to the Head of Virtual Design & Construction, the role works across major projects to define, embed, and continuously improve 4D workflows, standards, and tools. The focus is on technical excellence, innovation, and practical application — ensuring digital approaches deliver measurable value on live projects.

Key Responsibilities could include:

  • Act as the technical lead for 4D modelling, providing expert guidance across projects and supporting consistent, high-quality delivery.
  • Develop, manage, and evolve 4D models using Synchro or equivalent platforms, integrating design models with construction programmes.
  • Define and refine 4D standards, workflows, and best practices, aligned to project and organisational needs.
  • Drive innovative uses of 4D simulation, visualisation, and digital rehearsal to support planning, sequencing, and risk reduction.
  • Work closely with planning, design, and construction teams to embed 4D thinking into everyday project delivery.
  • Provide hands-on technical support, mentoring, and targeted training to develop capability across project teams.
  • Evaluate and support the adoption of new digital tools, automation, and data-driven workflows.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to the ongoing evolution of VDC and digital delivery strategy

You will already have:

  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience gained through senior BIM / VDC roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with 4D platforms such as Bentley Synchro, Fuzor, or similar tools.
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and BIM 360 / ACC.
  • Deep understanding of model coordination, data integration, and digital construction workflows.
  • Proven ability to translate technical capability into practical project outcomes.
  • Strong communicator, able to influence and guide teams through technical leadership rather than formal authority.
  • Familiarity with ISO 19650 information management principles.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing, project controls, and schedule integration.
  • Experience with reality capture, laser scanning, or as-built verification workflows
