What you will do
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surveyor/Estimator Specialist to join our team in support of Security and Fire domains within Johnson Controls. This role combines the responsibilities of on-site data collection, cost estimation, and proposal development to enable our front-line sellers to win business. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with the ability to work in diverse environments and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
How you will do it
Surveying:
Conduct site visits to assess, inspect, measure, and document specified equipment conditions.
Gather data and determine project feasibility using JC instruments. (e.g., ArcSite, measurement equipment).
Interpret and analyze survey data, including emergency exit maps or site plans, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
Conduct thorough research to find answers to complex questions and challenges, particularly those that may not have been encountered before.
Collaborate with team members to share findings and contribute to innovative problem solving.
Estimating:
Develop and create detailed proposals and Statements of Work (SOW) based on labor rates, material costs, and overhead.
Utilize estimating software (e.g., Compass, Solutions Navigator) for accurate cost estimation.
Prepare and review design processes, materials, and methods to determine project needs and costs.
Manage post-sales activities, including the preparation of security submittal packages, as-built drawings, installation assistance and change order support.
Identify opportunities to engage the regional engineering team and transfer appropriate projects when applicable (Value Engineering).
Regulatory Compliance:
Maintain updated working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental regulations and building codes.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Communicate effectively with sellers, engineers, and team members.
Present complex information clearly to stakeholders.
Persuade and convince others and approach challenges with positivity.
Time Management and Attention to Detail:
Coordinate tasks between surveying and estimating functions.
Manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Maintain high accuracy in survey assessments and cost estimations.
Continuous Learning and Adaptability:
Stay updated with advancements in surveying technology and estimating techniques.
Adapt to changes and promote operational improvements.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
What we look for
Required
5 years' work experience in both surveying and estimating.
Experience in fire and security products or services
Internships, apprenticeships, or prior employment in related roles (e.g., installation, service).
Valid driver’s license, with the ability to drive a Johnson Controls fleet vehicle for up to 8 hrs. per day.
As this is a field-based role, the constant ability to walk, stand, climb, lift, bend, and squat as needed.
Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Good eyesight, including the ability to work in low-light conditions.
Ability to work in diverse environments, including outdoor areas, construction sites, and existing buildings.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate survey data and cost estimates.
Problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve issues in project designs or cost structures.
Preferred
Professional certifications such as NICET (preferred).
Certifications in estimating related to various product offerings.
Internships, apprenticeships, or prior employment in related roles (e.g., installation, service).

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $76,000 to $101,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience,
knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market
data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group,
and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package. The
posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize
