Section Chief Laboratory Technologist - Blood Bank - Full Time - Nights
As the largest and busiest Transfusion Medicine Department in New York, we set the standards for our field. Here you'll have the opportunity to perform laboratory procedures in preparing and dispensing blood and blood products as ordered by physicians while serving as a lead to other Laboratory Technologists. Troubleshoot instruments and methods. Be at the forefront of maintaining inventory blood and blood products for our patients in accordance with departmental guidelines. In addition to gel technology, our state-of-the-art facilities utilize Echo Lumena & NEO Iris analyzers for testing with solid phase methodology. Perform all quality control procedures and assist in the evaluation of new equipment, reagents and methodologies. Calibrate and maintain lab instrumentation. Research and establish new procedures to improve laboratory operations while developing your leadership portfolio in this highly visible position.
As a Section Chief, you will have the opportunity to facilitate educational & training programs for both employees and clinical rotational students as well as the implementation of quality control initiatives. Demonstrate your expertise with the design/development/implementation of continuous education programs plus facilitating training sessions and associated assessments/feedback/performance metrics. Provide mentoring and support of team members ensuring proper skill development & knowledge retention while developing and managing quality control procedures & audit processes with a focus on trends & process improvements in this highly visible role.
This is a night shift position working 12:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday plus rotating weekends & holidays. Location is our Columbia campus in Upper Manhattan/Washington Heights.
