Job Summary: The Seasonal Cultural Anthropologist will be responsible for reviewing thousands of pages of primary source documents from or related to the Pipestone Indian School to address key questions and concerns raised by consulting Tribal Nations. The incumbent will develop spreadsheets and other records to document findings with care and compassion to the appropriate audiences, at the direction of the park superintendent. Duty stationed at the Midwest Archeological Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/26/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. Basic Requirement: This position has a basic requirement. You must possess one of the following: Degree: appropriate field of anthropology. You must provide transcripts.-OR- Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in an appropriate field of anthropology, or related course work, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts-OR Experience: four years of appropriate experience in anthropology performing research, museum work, or similar professional-level work. You must provide hours per week worked. -AND- In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as in archival, historical, or oral historical research. Performing a least two out of four of the following, A) Reviewing historical documents to answer research questions and documenting findings; B) Assisting in providing accurate cultural interpretive programs; C) Conducting oral history interviews, and D) Coordinating with Tribes or other entities to share information relevant to a particular group of people. You must provide hours per week worked.-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in anthropology or closely related field. You must provide transcripts.-OR- Combination of education and experience. Only graduate level education in excess of the first year (or 18 semester hours) is creditable when combining. For example, with 6 months of appropriate experience equivalent to GS-7 (50 percent of the experience requirement) and 27 semester hours of appropriate graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement) would total 100 percent.
