The Practice Education Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the School’s Practice Education Team across one or more disciplines, including Nursing, Midwifery, or Social Work and Counselling. Working in a collaborative and values-driven environment, this role is responsible for the supervision, coordination and continuous improvement of practice education systems and processes that underpin high-quality simulation and student practice learning.
The position plays a key role in sustaining and expanding practice placement opportunities across the School, partnering closely with the Faculty’s Work Integrated Learning team to strengthen strategic relationships with external providers. The role includes travel to practice sites where students undertake simulation and practice placements, supporting strong engagement with partners and teams on the ground.
Key responsibilities will include:
People Leadership and Workforce Management: Provide effective leadership of the Practice Education Team by allocating workloads, recruiting and onboarding staff, managing performance and conduct, supporting professional development, and fostering a high-performing, collegial culture aligned with University policies and procedures.
Strategic Practice Education Coordination: Oversee end-to-end placement coordination, including student allocation, placement negotiation, assessment processes, issue resolution and compliance with governance, regulatory and workplace health and safety requirements.
Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary contact for strategic placement providers, working collaboratively with Program Leads, Course Coordinators, the Faculty WIL team and partnership development colleagues to maintain and expand high-quality placement opportunities, including rural, remote and inter-professional learning.
Quality, Performance and Resource Management: Develop and maintain practice education policies, systems and data to support best practice learning and supervision, monitor student and placement outcomes, provide analytical reporting to senior stakeholders, and manage financial planning and budget performance for the Practice Education function.

A relevant postgraduate qualification with substantial experience in a health or practice education setting, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams across multiple locations.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to supervise, motivate and support staff to deliver high-quality, student-centred services.
Proven ability to build, manage and sustain effective relationships with placement providers through consultation and negotiation.
Sound knowledge of evidence-based practice education, curriculum design and accreditation requirements relevant to professional placements.
Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within complex, multidisciplinary and interprofessional environments.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to report to stakeholders across the School, University and external partners.
Willingness and capability to facilitate interprofessional education and learning, with experience in professional workplace education and training considered desirable.
It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent holds and maintains a full professional qualification that allows them to be eligible for registration with AHPRA, as a midwife. It is a requirement of this position that prior to commencement the incumbent holds and maintains a current blue card.
