Job Summary: As a Seasonal Clerk (OA), the primary purpose of the position is to perform a variety of clerical work in support of the functions of the office assigned.

Major Duties:

  • These positions support the Interpretation and Administration divisions by performing routine administrative tasks including: answering phone calls, sorting incoming mail and packages, recording reservations for specialty cave tours, assisting with lost and found records, copying, and typing forms and reports. Work will be performed primarily in an office environment but may include periodic, supervised interaction with the general public at a national park visitor center. Types 40 words per minute (wpm). Wind Cave National Park Wind Cave National Park is located in the southern Black Hills of southwest South Dakota. Considered two parks in one, Wind Cave hosts 120,000 cave visitors annually while bison, elk, coyotes, and prairie dogs roam the park's 33,000 surface acres. Climate extremes range from sub-zero temperatures during winter to over 100 degrees during summer. Extensive recreational opportunities exist throughout the Black Hills and surrounding region, and include hiking, camping, biking, fishing, and hunting. Medical and dental services, K-12 schools, shopping, and churches of most faiths are available in Hot Springs (12 miles) and Custer (20 miles). Full services and shopping opportunities are available in Rapid City (65 miles). Housing for rent or purchase is available in Hot Springs and Custer.

Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/16/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs clerical duties, and the ability to type 40 words per minute is required. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-02 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Possess three (3) months of general experience, which is any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, examples of general experience include, but are not limited to, progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work, data entry, receptionist, or other related work which required dealing with people on a recurring basis; and that indicates the ability perform the duties of this position. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Have successfully completed high school graduation or equivalent. You must include transcripts.
