Major Duties:
Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/24/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess both of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: Basic Education Requirement: Have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in an accredited college or university in archival science; or a bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. OR Possess a combination of education and experience with at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in 1A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience is sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform archivist work, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major as described above. Note: This position has a positive education requirement and you must provide a copy of your transcripts (see Education section of this announcement) or you will not be considered for this position. In addition to the basic education requirements, applicant must meet the minimum qualification requirements for a Archivist, GS-1420-09 as described below: Specialized Experience and/or Education Requirements: Have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service in duties such as I possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Duties such as conducting hands-on work in governmental archives under the guidance of a credentialed archivist to organize, arrange, and describe a major body of analog (paper) records; cataloging archival collections, appraising records for retention based on a records schedule, preparing finding aids for an archival collection, and to assess the condition of records and rehouse them to ensure their preservation. OR Have successfully completed two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position, such as archival science or history, that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of information having historical or archival values. OR Have an equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, have six months of the specialized experience (50 percent of the experience requirement) and 27 semester hours or 41 quarter hours of directly related graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement). Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
