In Japan, we are preparing to launch Cancerguard™, a first-in-class multi-cancer early detection (MCED) blood test designed to complement existing cancer screening and help detect multiple cancers earlier, with high specificity and clinically meaningful sensitivity.
 

Cancerguard will be first of its kind scientifically proven non-invasive cancer detection test in Japan catered to every screening eligible population but more specifically to those with high risk of cancer in terms of age, family history and/or other clinical background. Target healthy patients can order this test via screening clinics with strategy to acquire and activate clinics to offer Cancerguard but also healthy patients been activated to ask for the test, via effective online and offline marketing strategy.
 

We are looking for a driven, talented and experienced people who will work together with a cross functional team to launch and drive commercial uptake of Cancerguard among identified accounts.

Position Overview

The Screening Solutions Specialist is a frontline, field-based business development role responsible for driving adoption and uptake of Cancerguard in assigned territories:

  • Identify, engage, and develop premium and regular screening clinics as core partners for Cancerguard.
  • Work closely with physicians, clinic management, and operational staff to integrate Cancerguard into existing health check and “Ningen dock” workflows.
  • Act as a consultative partner to clinics – not only selling the test, but helping them design packages, workflows, and patient communication that make Cancerguard easy to adopt and sustainable to operate.

This role is central to making Cancerguard accessible to more patients in Japan’s health screening ecosystem.

Essential Duties

include but are not limited to the following:

  • Territory & Account Development
    • Own a defined territory of premium and regular screening clinics (and later, PCPs and other partners as the program expands).
    • Map target accounts, key decision-makers and influencers (clinic directors, heads of health check centers, marketing and nursing leads).
    • Build and execute account plans to:
      • Secure initial clinic interest and evaluation,
      • Move clinics through contracting and onboarding,
      • Grow Cancerguard inclusion in core packages and upsell opportunities.
  • Sales Execution & Clinic Engagement
    • Deliver a clear value story for Cancerguard tailored to each clinic’s profile.
    • Conduct face-to-face and virtual calls with:
      • Clinic directors and administrators (business and operational value),
      • Physicians (clinical and workflow value, patient communication),
      • Frontline staff (practical execution and patient communication).
    • Drive the full sales cycle from first contact to contracted clinic, in collaboration with the Sales Manager and internal stakeholders.
    • Achieve quarterly sales KPIs (e.g. contracts signed, test volumes) in line with territory targets.
  • Onboarding & Workflow Integration
    • Support clinics through practical onboarding:
      • Portal registration and basic training,
      • Understanding logistics (LBgard tubes, sample handling, timelines),
      • Integrating Cancerguard into existing check-up menus and patient flows.
    • Coordinate with Customer Service, Care Navigation, Lab Operations, and partners (e.g. SRL) to ensure smooth start-up and early operations.
  • Clinical & Commercial Education
    • Deliver structured educational sessions to clinics (small group or 1:1) on:
      • Cancerguard science and clinical performance (using approved materials),
      • Positioning as a complement to existing screening programmes,
      • Patient eligibility, test expectations, and follow-up principles.
    • Act as a visible and trusted representative of Exact Sciences to customers and relevant local events and meetings.
  • Demand Generation & Field Insights
    • Provide feedback to Marketing on implementation of patient-facing and clinic-facing initiatives (e.g. in-clinic materials, campaigns aligned with health check seasons).
    • Identify opportunities for creative business development (e.g. new clinic segments, bundling with other services) and share learnings with the broader team.
    • Capture and report field insights on competitor activity, clinic feedback, operational challenges, and patient reactions to inform ongoing strategy and product evolution
  • Compliance & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Operate strictly within Japanese legal and regulatory guardrails, following internal promotional policies and MLR-approved materials.
  • Collaborate closely with:
    • Sales Manager and Sales Director (target setting, territory strategy, coaching),
    • Marketing & Sales Enablement (content, tools, campaigns),
    • Product Scientific Liaison / Medical Affairs (clinical questions, KOL engagement),
    • Customer Service and Care Navigation (issue resolution, patient support).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (any discipline) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years in sales, account management, or other B2B customer-facing roles.
    • Some exposure to the healthcare industry, such as:
    • Selling products or services to clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, insurers, wellness providers, or life-science companies, or
    • Working in or with medical institutions, diagnostics, pharma, medtech, health-tech, occupational health, health insurance, or corporate wellness functions, or
    • Supporting health-related projects (e.g., healthcare consulting, IT implementation, medical device projects, or public health initiatives).
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong consultative selling ability—able to understand customer needs and connect solutions to clinical, operational, and commercial value.
    • Excellent relationship-building skills and solid business acumen.
    • Clear, confident communication skills in Japanese (verbal, written, and presentation).
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
    • Effective territory and time management, including planning visits and prioritizing accounts.
    • Comfortable working in a launch/start-up environment—flexible, proactive, and hands-on.
    • Team-oriented mindset with ability to collaborate cross-functionally and share best practices.
    • Demonstrated accountability for achieving/exceeding sales targets through effective resource utilization.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Proven ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships.
    • Business-level Japanese proficiency (spoken and written).
    • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently within the assigned region.
    • Ability to comply with company policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications (not mandatory, any of the following)

  • Experience selling to or working with screening clinics, or hospital health check departments.
  • Experience in health screening, diagnostics, oncology, imaging, or preventive medicine.
  • B2B solution-selling experience (selling services or solutions that require needs assessment, proposals, and follow-up rather than simple “box selling”).
  • Proven track record of launching or scaling new products or services (e.g., opening new accounts, building a territory from low base).
  • Proficiency with CRM and basic digital tools for pipeline management, reporting, and remote engagement (e.g., online meetings, webinars)
  • Business-level English (for internal communication and training).
  • Prior role as a medical representative, medical science liaison–adjacent rep, or specialty pharma sales (especially oncology, diagnostics, or chronic disease).
  • Prior role in medical device sales (e.g., imaging, endoscopy, cardiology, surgical devices) with experience visiting hospitals or clinics.
  • Prior role in diagnostic / lab testing sales (e.g., reference labs, genetic testing, imaging centers, health screening packages).
  • Prior role in healthcare solution sales (e.g., corporate wellness, occupational health, disease management programs, digital health solutions).
  • Prior role as a business development or sales lead for luxury or premium brands (e.g., high-end cosmetics, luxury fashion, jewellery, watches, or premium skincare).
  • Prior role in premium service sales (e.g., executive health check-ups, concierge medicine, private banking, high-end fitness clubs, luxury travel / hospitality memberships).
  • Prior role in consultative B2B or B2B2C sales targeting corporate HR, insurers, or benefit managers (even outside healthcare), where explaining value and building long-term relationships is critical.

Employment Term: This role includes a 3-month probationary period during which employment conditions remain unchanged. Employment is on an indefinite-term contract, and a one-month notice period is required for voluntary resignation, in accordance with company policy. Employees may be required to work overtime based on business needs, including occasional holiday and weekend work, with compensation provided per company policy and local labor regulation.

Salary Range:

¥8,362,000 - ¥12,543,000

The annual base salary shown is a national range for this position on a full-time basis and may differ by hiring location. Additionally, this role includes either 30 hours of overtime per month or 10 hours of midnight work per month, depending on the position. This position is also eligible for a bonus.
