The Role

As the School/Department Operations Manager, you will be pivotal in managing, planning, and delivering operational and administrative support services. Macquarie Business School (MQBS) is a world ranking Faculty that fosters an environment renowned for quality, flexibility, innovation, and commitment to equity and diversity. You will work closely with the Head of Operations, Head of School/Department, and Faculty Finance Business Partners to shape and oversee the operational landscape of Macquarie Business School (MQBS). This role will be pivotal in contributing to continuous improvement, digital transformation, and operational excellence.

You will be responsible for the key accountabilities below:

  • Build and/or contribute to the development of the annual School/Department budget at the direction of the Head of Operations and in consultation with Head of School/ Department and Faculty Finance Business Partners,

  • Lead the development, drafting and implementation of operational and resourcing plans for the School/Department,

  • In consultation with the Head of School/Department, Head of Faculty Operations and Finance Business Partner, oversee the day-to-day School/Department financial operations and budget management,

  • Contribute to the development of the strategy of the School/Department in partnership with the Head of School/Department as required,

  • In coordination with Faculty Education, Research, Technical and Shared Services, manage the organisation and operational support for staff within the School/ Department,

  • Provide high-quality advice to the Head of School/Department,

  • Oversee the onboarding of new staff, honorary appointees and visitors to the department in accordance with WHS and other University requirements,

  • Oversee and/or support strategic and operational projects as assigned by the Head of Faculty Operations,

  • Support the Head of School/Department with permanent academic staff workload allocations and casual staff agreements, including hiring where needed,

  • Team management, including professional development and upskilling of direct reports, and

  • Work with various stakeholders and the wider Operations team to support University key strategic goals, in particular: standardization of processes across six Departments, digital transformation, and improved ways of working.

About You

In this role, you will cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within the faculty, across the University, and externally. You will also provide guidance, mentorship, and support to professional staff within the School/Department, fostering a culture of high performance and exceptional service.

As an effective communicator and a skilled problem solver, you will approach challenges with a solutions-focused mindset. You will have the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of MQBS through identifying new ways of working, AI-led technology, and driving operational efficiencies.

In addition, you will have the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification/s and or equivalent extensive experience,

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in building and leading high performing teams to delivery organisational outcomes,

  • Demonstrated ability to plan at both strategic and operational levels with organisational skills to ensure the delivery and implementation of programs and services,

  • Proven ability to provide leadership and encourage a collaborative, cooperative and service-oriented work environment including the capacity to embrace and foster change,

  • Highly developed conceptual, analytical, problem solving and research skills and ability to develop innovative solutions,

  • Strong customer service focus and ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders,

  • Proven ability to exercise initiative and autonomous judgement and negotiate positive outcomes, and

  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial and physical resources.
