Major Duties:

  • What to Expect Assigned to a SAC and is expected to work with the SAC Director with minimum supervision toward the overall objectives of administering the program. Major duties and responsibilities include program management, budgeting and financial management, personnel management, program operations, interactions and relationships, and compliance. Assists with the development and supervision of a developmentally appropriate SAC program that promotes the social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth of children and youth in the age categories served. Assists in providing program oversight and accountability for the performance of employees and the safety of children in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD), United States Marine Corps (USMC), and local policies and standards. Supervises employees. Assists in overseeing the collection, accurate accounting and reporting of funds received from patrons. Ensures compliance with all regulations governing the use of appropriated and nonappropriated funds. Adheres to authorized methods of acquisition. In the absence of the Director, assumes responsibilities and performs duties and requirements of the position under supervision of CYP Administrator with oversight. Supervises employees to include: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, completing performance reviews and signing timecards, training employees. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors with occasional indoor and outdoor field trips. Classrooms and office areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. May work an uncommon tour of duty to include evenings and weekends to accommodate varying program operating schedules. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: What are we looking for? Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in youth development, elementary or secondary education, family and consumer science (human development emphasis), special education, or other fields appropriate to the position. OR A combination of education and experience (e.g. courses equivalent to a major in a field (24 higher level semester hours) appropriate to the position (see above) plus appropriate experience or additional course work that that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. Minimum of 18 months' experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principals of child/youth development. Experience must demonstrate the ability to lead junior staff in the accomplishment of work. Must have the visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth, to comply with sight and sound supervision requirements and to provide immediate responses when applicable Must be able to obtain and maintain Tier 1 (T1) Level background check with Childcare investigation which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age. Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Must complete all DoD training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, DoD Standardized Module Training, and annual ongoing training requirements, and required certifications, if any. Must maintain current food handlers, CPR and First Aid certifications. May be required to obtain a government driver's license. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Note: This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random drug testing because duties must be performed with a high level of productivity, reliability and judgment to prevent adversely affecting personnel safety, and causing risk/damage to government property, and/or significant adverse impact to day-to-day operations. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.
