Job Summary: The purpose of the School Age Care (SAC) Director position is to administer a developmentally appropriate program for children of eligible patrons within Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP). The SAC Director ensures compliance with Department of War (DoW), Department of the Navy (DON), and Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) standards while delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate care and programming for children ages 5-12, typically from kindergarten through 6th grade.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. A qualified candidate possesses the following: A bachelor's or higher degree related to youth programs and two years of full time experience working with children and/or youth. Knowledge of child and youth development theory, methodology, and practices relating to physical, intellectual, social and special education needs and center management. Knowledge of the principles of child and youth development and in designing and managing an exceptionally complex program that includes, but is not limited to safety, security, disease prevention, employee training, developmentally appropriate activities, parent involvement, and facility management. Knowledge of DoD, DON, local and state regulations, instructions and procedures pertaining to military childcare. Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing the detection and prevention of child abuse and/or neglect. Knowledge of facility design, functional use, and maintenance concepts pertaining to military child care. Knowledge of financial, budget, resource management practices and principles, and analytical and evaluative methods and techniques. Knowledge of SAC operations, youth development principles, and developmentally appropriate programming for school-age children. Knowledge of Navy CYP regulations, standards, and accreditation requirements. Knowledge of transportation safety procedures and regulations applicable to the movement of children in government or program vehicles. Skill in educating, counseling, and advising child care professionals and parents; assessing training and children and youth developmental needs. Skill in effectively organizing and utilizing community resources within the program framework to augment the program to meet installation objectives. Skill working with military families and an understanding of military lifestyles is. Skill in coordinating staff schedules, program planning, and activity execution. Ability to analyze, plan and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. Ability to supervise others, exercise sound business skills and provide positive personnel management. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to mentor, coach, and support staff to ensure high-quality program delivery. Effective communication skills in English, both orally and in writing, with staff, children ,parents, and community partners. Ability to respond to emergencies, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure the safety and accountability of children and staff.
