As a downtown site of the University, UBC Robson Square (UBC RS) is a vibrant place of learning located in the heart of Vancouver where programs, courses, seminars, conferences and events are attended by over 90,000 participants each year. Clientele ranges from UBC faculties, industry professionals, business executives and managers to professional associations, government ministries, entrepreneurs and the community. The facility is adjacent to the Vancouver Art Gallery and the BC Law Courts. 30k sq.ft. of bookable spaces are made up of 16 classrooms, 1 Theatre, 2 boardrooms, and 10 breakout rooms. UBC Robson Square is open seven (7) days per week, including weekday evenings.

Job Summary

UBC Robson Square is seeking a dynamic Sales Specialist to lead strategic sales initiatives that drive revenue growth and increase space utilization. This role focuses on identifying opportunities within UBC departments (70%) and engaging external clients (30%) to expand event and service bookings. The Sales Specialist manages the full sales cycle—from prospecting to negotiation—while providing concise summary reports to leadership.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable, with a strong passion for sales and service excellence. They are motivated by creative problem-solving and thrive in a values-driven, collaborative, and entrepreneurial environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

Organizational Status

The sales specialist reports to the Director, UBC Robson Square and works alongside the Relationship Manager and Events Services Manager.

Work Performed

Sales Strategy & Execution

·       Develop and execute lead generation strategies to achieve revenue targets.

·       Research UBC departments to identify synergies and high-value opportunities; schedule meetings and negotiate diverse agreements.

·       Create content for proposals including formatting, graphic design, copywriting and editing, and deliver presentations tailored to internal and external audiences,

·       Manage the full sales cycle, ensuring timely follow-up and accurate documentation.

·       Build and maintain relationships with senior-level external clients across diverse industries.

·       Work alongside the Relationship Manager and Director to develop pricing strategies.

·        Manage and monitor performance metrics and provide actionable insights to leadership; prepare projections and forecasts.

·       Maintain flexibility in a fast‑changing work environment through close, ongoing coordination with leadership

·       Balance workload and expectations by prioritizing effectively, applying strong project management practices, and maintaining transparent communication

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Makes decisions regarding the implementation of sales, promotions, and marketing work.

This role directly influences new and repeat business as well as revenue targets. Service quality and community engagement are keystones of the facility and all very visible to the public in this downtown location. Decisions could have a significant impact on public perceptions of UBC and UBC Robson Square. A collaborative decision-making process with effective and fair outcomes reflects positively on the reputation of UBC. Poor decisions, errors and/or management ineptitude could result in embarrassment for the University, diminution of its prestige and credibility, and have potentially significant negative financial implications.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Director, UBC Robson Square. Works under limited direction within policies and guidelines. Work is reviewed based on adherence to guidelines and completion of assigned work.

Supervision Given

May manage staff and be responsible for hiring, discipline, evaluation and termination.

Minimum Qualifications

Diploma in Marketing. Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).

·       3–5 years of experience in sales, business development, or account management.  Experience in conference, meeting or event sales preferred.

·       Proven ability to generate leads, qualify opportunities, prepare and present compelling pitches, negotiate contracts, and achieve revenue targets.

·       Strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills with the ability to engage senior-level stakeholders.

·       Excellent organizational and time management skills.

·       Experience working with cross-functional teams in a commercial, higher-education or public sector service context is an asset.

·       Ability to interact effectively and positively with prospective clients, faculty, and team members, and to work collaboratively across multiple teams.

·       Hands‑on in managing pipeline goals and performance data and helping guide cross‑functional decision‑making.

·       Agility, curiosity, and a collaborative nature.
