Job Summary: You will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist in the Data and Analytics Directorate, Commander, Naval Safety Command (COMNAVSAFECOM) of NAVSAFECOM.

Major Duties:

  • You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist (SOH) under the direction of the Data and Analytics Directorate, Naval Safety Command.
  • You will identify Navy enterprise-wide issues and provide policy updates as needed through analysis of various safety and occupational health data.
  • You will review all incoming mishaps, hazards/near misses, investigations, inspection results and other related safety information for all on and off duty safety and occupational health related programs.
  • You will provide guidance, recommendations and assistance to the Division Head, Shore – Data Analysis Division, concerning the reporting of mishaps, hazards and investigation/inspection information.
  • You will conduct analysis of the safety data including but not limited to mishaps, hazards/near misses, investigations, inspection results, worker's compensation data, training, etc.
  • You will perform trend analysis, content analysis, data coding, and assist with quantitative and qualitative analysis using analytical methods.
  • You will determine origin, causes, and contributing elements as well as identify root causes and contributing factors, recommending corrective action, and notifying military and civilian personnel for awareness/action.
  • You will develop various products based on safety data review and analysis.
  • You will prepare periodic reports that include but are not limited to the number of mishaps, mishap rates, fatalities, injuries, property damage, mishap analysis, causal factors.
  • You will recommend new on and off duty SOH program or shore related safety approaches, concepts and procedures where precedents do not exist to guide safety and occupational health professionals.
  • You will develop and coordinate SOH requests from higher headquarters, preparation of historical documentation, and SOH program updates.
  • You will maintain and/or assist in the maintaining of the SOH data, trends, analysis portion of the command's web site.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring the relevancy, currency, and accuracy of posted information and for compliance with established information posting procedures.
  • You will conduct or assist in the management of access to the Navy mishap and safety program management system of record(s).

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following: 1) Applying a basic knowledge of analytical software in addition, having the knowledge, capabilities, and practices associated with the Department of Defense, Federal OSHA, and applicable international health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures used to develop and implement mishap and environmental health prevention practices and measures in shore-based workplaces; 2) Utilizing concepts, principles, theories, and methods to identify, control, mitigate, and eliminate safety hazards or minimize safety risks and work processes; 3) Performing extensive data collection, determining data's importance, and accurately communicating it to the customer; 4) Applying quantitative and qualitative methods, measurement, fact-finding, and investigative techniques to support research and analysis; and 5) Organizing findings into a well-prepared written format for an intended audience. Prior law enforcement, civilian, or military training in motor vehicle accident investigations and data collection, highly desired.
