Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Safety EHS Engineer to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team at the Rolling Meadows site in Illinois.  The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing and managing all safety, occupational health and environmental programs while demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time to consistently meet deadlines. Must be able to multitask and remain efficient while taking on unplanned work as needs arise. Also, performing job duties with general direction and supervision, providing technical solutions to complex problems grounded in sound Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) principles.

What You'll Get To Do:

  • Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact to site. Develops, implements, and maintains EHS programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal requirements, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.

  • Conducts job hazard assessments and recommends appropriate hazard control approaches.

  • Maintains and performs tasks for the following occupational safety programs: electrical, lockout-tagout, material handling (cranes, aerial lifts, and forklifts), contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, cryogenics, incident investigations, and robotics.

  • Experience in conducting training for crane, aerial lift, fall protection and forklift operations.

  • Experience conducting internal compliance inspections in EHS programs.

  • Experience in conducting in person training and developing online training for various EHS compliance related topics to various types of audience.

  • Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects. 

  • Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, the site EHS Committee, and the Emergency Response, and Crisis Management teams.

  • Reviews new construction and renovation plans for EHS aspects.

  • Conducts internal compliance inspections to identify actions necessary to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Partners with management to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.

  • Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects. 

  • Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures.

  • Coordinates, develops, and conducts EHS training for employees and management. 

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, effectively influencing stakeholders at all organizational levels.

The position can be filled at a Level 3 or 4.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor of Science degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or environmental science; OR a Master's degree and 3 years of related EHS experience.

  • Experience in conducting incident investigations, personal protective equipment assessments, and job hazard analysis.

  • Experience in conducting training for crane, aerial lift, fall protection and forklift operations.

  • Experience in occupational safety programs, such as electrical, lockout-tagout, material handling, contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, and cryogenics based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulations.

  • Experience conducting internal compliance inspections in EHS programs.

  • Experience in conducting in person training and developing online training for various EHS compliance related topics to various types of audience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance

  • US Citizenship Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or environmental science; OR a Master's degree and 6 years of related EHS experience.

  • Experience in conducting incident investigations, personal protective equipment assessments, and job hazard analysis.

  • Experience in conducting training for crane, aerial lift, fall protection and forklift operations.

  • Experience in occupational safety programs, such as electrical, lockout-tagout, material handling, contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, and cryogenics based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulations.

  • Experience conducting internal compliance inspections in EHS programs.

  • Experience in conducting in person training and developing online training for various EHS compliance related topics to various types of audience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance

  • US Citizenship Required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health, occupational safety, or related field

  • MS degree in occupational safety, or a related field, or currently enrolled in an MS degree program.

  • Experience with supporting EHS programs for semiconductor operations.

  • Computer based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.

  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Tableau.

  • Experience with overseeing third party consultants/contractors.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $123,400.00 - $185,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
