The Safety & Security Manager is responsible for leading the strategic execution of Peet’s safety and security programs in support of Peet’s employees delivering operational excellence to every customer, every day. They are responsible for workplace safety programs to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, reduce potential injuries, and prevent loss and unnecessary health and safety situations & costs. This role is responsible for both leading incident response as well as retail store programs, including standards, training, and resources, that develop organizational & leadership capability associated with safety and security. The Safety & Security Manager is a full-time, exempt role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Overall Program Leadership
- Lead safety, security, & emergency management programs to ensure compliance, contain costs, reduce injuries, unnecessary health & safety issues, and mitigate future risk
- Develop overall strategies with channel leadership, establishing priorities, risks, and associated costs
- Lead channel health and safety programs including training, day-to-day coaching, feedback, and direction to managers
- Collaborate with Human Resources and Work Comp team to support effective injury/illness case management, return-to-work programs, and investigation and facilitation of issues
Safety, Security, & Emergency Management
- Effectively lead, manage, and support physical security, alarm response, and emergency preparedness. Participates in emergency response incidents and accident investigations.
- Organizes, leads, and participates in activities that promote employee involvement in health and safety efforts (e.g., safety committees, accident investigation teams, emergency).
- Lead and promote effective emergency and incident management
- Provide front-line support to field management (e.g., Store Managers and District/Regional Leaders) in the administration of safety & security incident reduction programs. Identify root causes and provide leadership, coaching, and support program enhancements.
- Lead as liaison with law enforcement in partnership with Legal, HR, and Field Leadership in matters requiring law enforcement involvement
- Assists in reviewing the status and effectiveness of HSE programs and making needed improvements
- Manage IIPP program compliance in partnership with key stakeholders
- Supports field loss prevention investigations into potential loss or violations of policies
Training
- Develops training programs, functioning as an instructor when appropriate/required.
- Examples include de-escalation training, evolving safety & health standards, OSHA compliance (e.g. Workplace Violence Prevention, Heat Illness Prevention)
- Prepares and provides effective interpretation of claims, accident statistic data, accident reports, training course materials, and statistics, bench marking to incorporate into updated guidance and training.
Compliance & Reporting
- Support timely reporting of all retail safety and security incidents to ensure visibility to appropriate stakeholders. Review monthly reporting of incidents in partnership with Legal and HR to identify trends and risks requiring support or adaptation. Execute quarterly business review of incidents with Senior Retail Leadership.
- Support business owners in incidents pertaining to OSHA inspections. Provide effective administrative support with business owners, Legal, and Human Resources teams when responding to OSHA complaints or citations.
- Coordinate identification and evaluation of hazards, ensuring effective corrective solutions are implemented
- Participate in the review of new operations, processes, and procedures (as well as proposed changed to existing operations) at the proposal/design phase to assure consideration of technical health and safety issues/hazards, to required permit applications and to facilitate implementation of effective controls
- Learn and stay apprised of industry trends and requirements to provide effective consultation regarding applicable and emerging health and safety issues.
- Leads OSHA/compliance programs including but not limited to:
- Workplace Violence Prevention
- Heat Illness Prevention Plan
- Injury & Illness Prevention Plan
- Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills with the ability to consult across all levels of the organization on a full range of issues (technical requirements, policy, comprehensive and effective strategies).
- Strong technical skills, including solid knowledge of regulatory and legal requirements
- Exceptional negotiation & influence skills
- Strong financial and business acumen, including knowledge of retail/QSR business strategies, business channels, financial performance, and the ability to align programs & services to meet business objectives.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent facilitation and delegation skills
- Team player, effective developing cross functional partnerships
- 8+ years’ experience leading safety and security programs
- Proficiency with incident management systems
- BA or MA in field such as safety or equivalent combination of skills and experience
- Ability to travel as needed locally and nationally, sometimes with limited notice
- Ability to work in store environment both front and back of house

The target annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 – $130,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including the applicant’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education, certifications or licenses, other legitimate non-discriminatory business factors, and the geographic location of the role. In addition to base pay, individuals in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
