Job Summary: About the Position: This position supports the mission of the Defense Health Agency Safety Branch and is located in Falls Church, VA. Salary negotiation may be available to those candidates who are new to Federal service. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Major Duties:

• Plan, organize, and conduct agency-wide comprehensive inspection activity.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of occupational safety requirements in the work environment.
• Assess the degree of compliance with applicable regulation and standards.
• Develop changes and modifications to a broad range of work processes, equipment operations, and protective devices to minimize injuries to employees and damage to agency property.
• Participate in planning and executing special safety inspections or evaluations in chemical/biological safety and other assigned program areas involving difficult problems or controversies.
• Develop curriculum and agency-wide educational effort for directors and employees in occupational safety and health regulations, practices and procedures.
• Consult and manage user agreements with other agency experts (e.g., industrial hygienists, physicians, environmental engineers, etc.) in the resolution of difficult environmental hazards and the development of safety guidance and procedures.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes developing or managing comprehensive occupational safety and health programs; overseeing the implementation of safety policies, technical standards, or compliance codes across diverse operations; and directing scheduled facility-wide safety inspections or hazard identification systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
