POSITION SUMMARY:

The Rotating Equipment Advisor is a crucial role within Marathon Petroleum, focused on enhancing the reliability and performance of rotating equipment across the facility. This position involves leading initiatives to improve maintenance procedures, developing targeted training programs for pump mechanics, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with various teams to ensure effective maintenance practices are upheld, resulting in optimized equipment operation and reduced downtime.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with troubleshooting to proactively reduce maintenance backlog and resolve operational issues as they arise to support the Area Team.
  • Provides technical oversight in area of expertise. Works with Reliability to develop turnaround scope for discipline.
  • Coaches, mentors, and trains all Craftsmen and Operators in the assigned area, as appropriate.
  • Helps investigate and resolve chronic instrument reliability issues in conjunction with Reliability.
  • Provides Quality Control inspections on repairs; review sand signs all Mechanical Integrity Quality Control repair forms and PM Forms.
  • Collaborates with Planners and vendors on repairs, reviewing all repairs and quotes.
  • Evaluates craft specific specialty tooling for fit and function to ensure the correct tools are available to the craft to be successful. Verifies tool inspections are current if required.
  • Assists planners, warehouse and supply chain in identifying warehouse stock items and provides input on sparing.
  • Writes, reviews, edits, and maintains maintenance/repair procedures for their area of expertise.
  • Supports startup of major critical equipment or commissioning new equipment.

Occasionally backfills for Pump Mechanic Supervisor

  • Leads maintenance execution for the Machine Shop. Supports the Maintenance execution team and ensures optimal utilization of the refinery Machinist craft to increase rotating equipment mechanical availability and reliability.
  • Acts as a safety leader. Leads daily safety meetings with Machinists and ensures MPC policies and practices are followed. Maintains active and visible presence to promote a safe working environment. Performs safety audits to support the safe work permitting process and drive improvements across all aspects of the organization. Participates in incident investigations and complete Intelex assignments such as Incident Investigations, Recommendations, and MOC tasks.
  • Ensures repairs meet MPC policies. Participates as a member of the Maintenance leadership team. Works with other various departments to develop strategies to improve equipment life cycle cost, repair quality, and reliability. Assist the Planning and Warehouse department with equipment repair plans and equipment sparing strategies.
  • Drives Machine Shop repair planning and execution. Communicates with key stakeholders on status of critical repairs. Interfaces with Engineering to develop repair plans on critical equipment.
  • Ensures equipment maintenance records are maintained and acts as a quality leader for machinery repairs. Ensures all equipment testing and calibrations are performed per MPC policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with vendors to facilitate off-site repair of machinery. Performs repair shop audits and addresses vendor quality issues.
  • Identifies inspection and repair scope for Routine Maintenance, Major Maintenance, and TAR activities.
  • Updates daily and weekly schedule databases for the planning and execution of machinery repairs. Develops and maintains machine shop KPI’s.
  • Ensures craft are provided opportunities for advancement and training. Acts as training quality leads and facilitates sign-off of competency assessments.
  • Stays abreast of developing technologies applicable to rotating equipment monitoring, inspection, and repair.
  • Understands this job is in production-centered support of a 24/7 operation and may require additional time and resources.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required (must be completed prior to start date)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with pumps in refining, petrochemical, or related industrial settings preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Leadership experience is desired

SCHEDULE:

  • Monday - Thursday, 10-hour shifts (occasional availability for on-call weekend rotations and support for Turnarounds and shutdowns)
