Job Summary
Vistra is seeking an experienced Rotating Component Engineer to support the nuclear fleet. This position is responsible for providing technical leadership and engineering support for all rotating equipment including Pumps, Fans, Dampers, Compressors, Chillers, and Turbines. The Rotating Component Engineer will support Operations and Maintenance organizations in ensuring reliable performance of these critical components through proactive engineering, maintenance optimization, and technical oversight of modifications and refurbishments.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
Component Engineering Leadership
- Provide proactive engineering oversight for rotating equipment to improve overall plant reliability and prevent failures
- Serve as the single point of contact and subject matter expert (SME) for assigned rotating components
- Monitor and improve component health through condition monitoring, trend analysis, and performance evaluation
- Develop and maintain component-specific programs for rotating equipment reliability
Maintenance Strategy Development
- Develop and facilitate execution of long-range maintenance strategies for rotating equipment
- Optimize preventive and predictive maintenance tasks based on site operating experience, maintenance feedback, and industry best practices
- Implement predictive maintenance programs/technologies including vibration analysis, thermography, acoustic monitoring, and oil analysis
- Provide condition monitoring guidance to the predictive maintenance organization
Technical Oversight and Support
- Provide technical expertise to maintenance and operations personnel for troubleshooting and repair of rotating equipment
- Support plant operations and maintenance on equipment questions or concerns
- Develop or review design modification packages for rotating equipment
- Prepare engineering reports and technical evaluations for component issues
- Perform equivalency modifications for obsolete equipment with assistance from Procurement Engineering for Form, Fit, and Function determination
Vendor and Procurement Interface
- Serve as the primary interface with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and component refurbishment vendors
- Recommend qualified vendors for refurbishing existing components and potential suppliers of new replacement components to the procurement engineering organization
- Prepare technical refurbishment specifications and work instructions for vendors
- Establish quality control activities including vendor surveillance, witness/hold points, and acceptance criteria
Component Health Monitoring
- Prepare component health reports and implement component health monitoring programs
- Establish monitoring criteria specific to each rotating component type
- Evaluate maintenance history and work requests to identify adverse trends
- Leverage Component Health Reports to communicate equipment issues and action plans
Program Implementation and Compliance
- Own and verify rigorous implementation of maintenance programs for assigned rotating equipment
- Ensure program implementation is current with industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Support industry initiatives regarding component reliability and maintenance practices
- Actively participate in industry user groups related to rotating equipment
Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Nuclear) from an accredited program.
- Minimum 6 years of relevant job experience in maintenance, engineering, or nuclear plant operations with rotating equipment
- Experience with specific equipment types: pumps, fans, dampers, compressors, chillers, and turbines
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance techniques including vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis
- Experience with vendor oversight activities and technical specifications development
Key Metrics:
- Prepare engineering reports and component health assessments
- Perform tasks in accordance with established expectations for nuclear safety and personnel safety
- May be responsible for developing other employees in area of expertise
- Serves a lead role on projects, teams, processes, or programs related to rotating equipment
- One of few who possess abilities not easily gained and of significant depth in rotating equipment expertise
Up to 25% travel may be required to corporate locations, power plants, other utilities, and industry meetings to support work activities.
This position can be located at any of our nuclear sites.
