OverviewEnsures nursing procedures in Radiation Oncology, to include patient assessment and patient education, are carried out in a technically accurate, compassionate, and timely manner. Policies and procedures are developed, revised, and followed. Reports difficulties with clinical equipment or processes to the director. Responsible for daily operation, and scheduling of radiation nursing staff in multiple radiation departments. Communicates, coaches and engages RN team members. Responsible for documentation of statistical/operational reports and remaining prepared for appropriate accreditations. Participates and leads process improvement initiatives relative to nursing. Coordinates patient care with other departments and physician practices to include concurrent chemotherapy and other adjuvant treatments. Responsible for hiring, onboarding, discipline, and annual evaluations for direct report RN staff.
What you will do- Manages scheduling of Radiation Oncology registered nurses. Works in tandem with physicians to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow for clinical office visits at all locations. Coordinates schedules for shared patients with medical oncology. Schedules and coordinates transportation for inpatients to Radiation Oncology. Ensures workflows are standardized in Radiation Oncology across the system.
- Maintains a working knowledge of Riverside policies and HIPAA compliance requirements, including National Patient Safety Goals, governing body regulations and accreditation standards. Follows safety practices to reduce falls and maintain infection prevention. Provides input for policies and procedures related to radiation oncology nursing. Appropriate management of emergency situations, including inventory of emergency cart and staff competency.
- Provide a high level of commitment from nursing to meeting patient's needs and provide quality medical care as evidenced from customer feedback. Provide high customer service during clinic, including response to patient calls, patient messages, and in-basket messages. Demonstrates professional relationships with medical staff and team members. Builds trusting collaborative relationships through timely follow-up regarding requests and concerns.
- Provides coaching and feedback throughout the year to enhance employee satisfaction. Responds to employee and provider concerns and requests. Hires, onboards and evaluates registered nurse staff.
- Demonstrates a high level of clinical knowledge and care to include patient assessment, charting, education and specialized radiation oncology care. Demonstrates the ability to develop a plan of care that assures patients receive consistent, competent and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support for the patient's value system. Demonstrates nursing process by evaluating, implementing and modifying plan of care based on the individual needs of the patient. Educates the patient according to department guidelines. Routinely reviews patient education material for validity and ensures standardization. Refers patient to appropriate disciplines.
- Actively participates in meetings, in-services and educational programs. Participates on projects that lead to process improvements or enhanced services. Works to achieve quality dashboard indicators demonstrating continued progress toward quality goals. Seeks out new information on side effects, skin care, new techniques, and referrals to other services that may assist patients. Member of the safety team, reports safety concerns.
QualificationsEducation- Bachelors Degree, Nursing (Required)
Experience- 2 years Oncology nursing or recent relevant experience (Required)
- 1 year Supervisory (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
