PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Salary to be commensurate with experience
The hiring range for this position is $20.04 - $25.05/hourly
This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate will work up to 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, accrue paid time off, and receive 11 paid holidays.

OVERVIEW OF JOB
The Risk Operations Technician coordinates financial processes, insurance and claims information, claims set-up, and technical assistance for the Risk Management Division of the Finance Department.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Processes payment of invoices
Prepares, reviews, and processes financial and expense reports
Manages existing contracts and open purchase orders for professional services
Assists the Senior Risk Manager with overseeing and tracking budget expenditures
Functions as the division’s liaison with Information Technology and the vendor for database training, projects, and upgrades
Obtains and reviews police reports, court documents, and reports from management, city employees, outside agencies, and the general public
Assists the Multi-Line Claims Adjusters in analyzing property damage claims for potential subrogation and restitution collections
Coordinates record management for the division
Updates and maintains the department’s policy and procedures manual, including drafting new provisions as business needs change
Performs clerical duties as needed
Performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
Associates Degree in related field required
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years related experience working as an Administrative Assistant in an Insurance or Risk Management office.
Candidate must be proficient in using computer programs such as Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred in risk management, business, insurance, public administration or related field.
Experience with insurance claims, financial management, or other related experience is preferred.
Familiarity with workers’ compensation laws and with the Governmental Immunity Act are a plus but not required.
Fluency in Spanish is a plus but not required.
Licenses and Certification Preferred:
Colorado Notary Certificate a plus but not required
Knowledge:
Understands simple insurance concepts such as certificates of insurance, declarations pages, schedules of values and timelines for filing claims
Able to evaluate events/activities for potential risk exposures
Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Power Point and Excel.
Speaks, writes, and communicates effectively
Capable of performing simple math calculations, such as calculating percentages, averages, etc.
Thinks critically and exercises independent judgment with minimal supervision
Abilities:
Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with employees, citizens, and Insurance Agents and Brokers
Understands financial processes
Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
Demonstrates a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers
Maintains confidentiality and acts in a professional manner
Capable of organizing, prioritizing and managing multiple projects for completion in a timely manner.
Ability to learn new software programs easily. Demonstrates initiative and creativity in solving problems
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
Primarily sedentary but some physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds
Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate office equipment
Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.
Work Environment:
Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment.
Equipment Used:
Frequently uses standard office equipment including computers, calculators and copy/fax machines
Frequently answers telephone calls.
The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
