Job Description

What is the opportunity? 

Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) is responsible for providing risk oversight of RBC’s trading activities including counterparty exposure measurement and monitoring, portfolio risk analysis and reporting.

As Risk Manager (RM) in the Portfolio Analysis (CCRPA) team, you support the production of analysis for senior management, business heads and regulators with views and insights on the market risk profile of RBC’s trading portfolio, and on potential developments, concentrations and trends in risk that could result in significant financial loss under adverse market conditions.

What will you do?

  • Pro-actively investigate risks to provide clear and comprehensive analysis to all levels of the risk management organization highlighting potential areas of concern.
  • Contribute to the development of the ad-hoc market risk analysis capabilities, with particular focus on developing forward-looking analysis and the ability to model potential future risks within RBC’s portfolios and within the boarder markets. 
  • Demonstrate a deep, detailed understanding of trading market risks at RBC as well as the current market environment, to provide senior management with risk assessments and proposed actions that can be taken.
  • Produce and submit monthly and quarterly reporting, including reporting to senior committees, shareholders and regulators.
  • Automate processes and develop new analytic capabilities into the reporting/analytic framework, enabling the team to review and analyze portfolio risks in a timely and accurate fashion, enabling the team to readily identify, investigate and summarize notable risk trends that are escalated to Sr Management.
  • Assist in the implementation of project-based initiatives

What do you need to succeed? 

Must-have

  • 1-2 years of experience in quantitative risk control function such as market or credit risk, with an understanding of capital markets trading products and related credit risk concepts
  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject such as Finance, Economics, or other quantitative discipline
  • Good understanding of financial markets and trading businesses, both exchange-traded and over the counter markets
  • Thorough knowledge of traded products, particularly derivatives and their associated risks
  • Strong command and hands on experience with Excel, Python, and SQL
  • Strong technical, analytical and general problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experiences presenting to senior audiences.
  • Proven organizational skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines

Nice-to-have

  • FRM, PRMIA, or CFA
