Senior Accounting Manager, DACH

Cytokinetics is a late-stage, specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which cardiac muscle performance is compromised. As a leader in muscle biology and the mechanics of muscle performance, the company is developing small molecule drug candidates specifically engineered to impact myocardial muscle function and contractility.

The Senior Accounting Manager, DACH, reporting to the Head of International Accounting, plays a pivotal role within the International Finance team. This position oversees statutory and tax compliance for the DACH region (specifically Germany and Switzerland) and ensures robust SOX and US GAAP compliance. It offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced finance professional with hands‑on operational capabilities and demonstrated success in developing and strengthening finance organizations.

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

    Statutory & Financial Reporting

    • Lead preparation and filing of statutory financial statements for all DACH legal entities under local GAAP
    • Coordinate year-end statutory reporting and disclosures
    • Ensure compliance with local accounting standards and regulatory requirements
    • Manage statutory adjustments from group reporting to local GAAP
    • Coordinate with external advisors for statutory accounts and filings
    • Maintain statutory accounting calendars and ensure deadlines are met
    • Partner with the External Accounting Firm

    Audit Management

    • Act as primary contact for external auditors across DACH entities
    • Manage statutory audits end-to-end, including planning, documentation, and issue resolution
    • Coordinate internal audit requests and remediation actions
    • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation
    • Ensure timely closure of audit findings and control deficiencies
    • Support SOX / internal control compliance (partnering with US team)

    VAT Responsibilities

    • Oversee preparation and timely submission of VAT returns and related filings across all DACH entities, in coordination with internal tax teams and external advisors
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of VAT reporting through reconciliation of VAT accounts to the general ledger
    • Review VAT treatment of complex transactions, cross-border supplies, and intercompany charges
    • Support VAT audits and inquiries from tax authorities, including documentation and response coordination
    • Monitor changes in VAT legislation and ensure accounting processes and controls remain compliant

    Balance Sheet Governance

    • Own balance sheet integrity across all DACH entities
    • Ensure timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations for all accounts
    • Prepare reconciliations
    • Investigate and resolve aged or unusual reconciling items
    • Drive continuous improvement in balance sheet control processes

    Compliance & Regulatory

    • Ensure EU entities operate in full compliance with US GAAP, corporate accounting policies, and SOX internal control requirements
    • Own and maintain SOX control framework across EU entities, including documentation, control design, and operating effectiveness testing
    • Partner closely with US Corporate Accounting, Internal Audit, and Controllership teams to support quarterly and annual SOX certifications
    • Coordinate remediation of control deficiencies, ensuring timely resolution and sustainable process improvements

    Qualifications:

    • A minimum of a BS or similar designation; CPA preferred
    • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including statutory reporting and financial close for multiple EU entities, preferably within a multinational environment
    • Strong expertise in US GAAP reporting, with solid knowledge of local GAAP requirements across European jurisdictions, mainly Germany and Switzerland
    • Proven experience managing external and internal audits, including SOX compliance, internal controls, and audit coordination with Big4 or international audit firms
    • Demonstrated experience in balance sheet governance, reconciliations, and month-end/quarter-end close processes in a complex multi-entity structure
    • Ability to partner effectively with US Corporate Accounting and Controllership teams, ensuring alignment with global accounting policies and reporting deadlines
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and financial reporting models
    • Strong experience working with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, or similar financial systems
    • Experience with financial consolidation and reporting tools (e.g., Oracle Hyperion or similar platforms)
    • Solid understanding of general ledger systems, account reconciliation tools, and automated close processes
    • Ability to analyze large financial datasets, improve reporting automation, and leverage financial systems to enhance accounting processes and internal controls
    • Language skills: English fluent, and German preferred
