Risk and Underwriting Senior Manager-Cigna Pharmacy

Role Summary:

Responsible for implementing the Go to Market Pharmacy strategy by guiding the pharmacy underwriters through account level rate development, directly supporting underwriting and pricing for high-impact cases, and working to develop strategic recommendations related to market competition and pricing.  The Cigna Pharmacy Underwriting Senior Manager will focus on direct management and mentoring of a team of pharmacy underwriters and will support the underwriters in driving market growth strategies goals and personal development of competencies and skills. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deploy tactics to execute strategy and achieve earnings and growth

  • Responsible for supporting the development and achievement of business plans and supporting setting strategic direction

  • Assist in broker/client development and assist underwriter in high-risk negotiations

  • Provide risk and financial insights to make better case decisions

  • Conduct regular touch point meetings with Pharmacy Pricing and Go-To-Market team to gain feedback, take actions on strategic objectives and provide guidance

  • Identify and drive process improvements to increase speed to market on quote delivery and case implementation.

  • Provide a broad risk management perspective to all strategic conversations

  • Develop processes and disciplines around monitoring and assessing risk in decisions.

  • Always start with and end with customer/client needs, when developing consultative, innovative and affordable solutions and contemplating the resultant risk.

  • Act as a change agent in insuring the effective implementation of key business priorities.

  • Develop direct reports; provide opportunities for project work, coach and provide on-going formal and informal feedback, ensure development plans are in place.

  • Demonstrate a “player–coach” mindset—balancing people leadership with active contribution to case strategy and execution.

  • Be a team player.  Proactively share ideas and best practices with peers.  Challenge when appropriate.

  • Invest in your own personal development.  Update job knowledge, seek educational opportunities, read relevant industry news, maintain professional networks

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, statistics, accounts, finance or economics or related fields is preferred.

  • 5+ years experience in an Underwriting/actuarial or financial role

  • Possesses analytical skills to interpret, evaluate and communicate financial results

  • Ability to lead a team of peers to consensus

  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Underwriting Policies & Procedures preferred

  • Demonstrated experience executing well, acting with sense of urgency and multitasking


If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 120,500 - 200,900 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
