About the team and position
The Workers’ Compensation Return to Work (RTW) Coordinator oversees the day-to-day administration of Carvana’s Transitional Duty Program, enabling employees to safely and efficiently resume work following a job-related injury or illness. This role ensures all return-to-work activities prioritize employee safety, follow medical guidance, and comply with company policies and workers’ compensation regulations. The RTW Coordinator manages return-to-work accommodations for employees with medically prescribed restrictions (light or modified duty) and those released to full duty. This includes coordinating suitable assignments, tracking restrictions and release dates, and keeping all stakeholders informed throughout the process. The position also provides administrative and operational support for the broader Workers’ Compensation program. Serving as the primary point of contact for the Transitional Duty Program, the RTW Coordinator works closely with Human Resources, Workers’ Compensation claims adjusters, injured employees, and their managers to promote timely communication and a positive return-to-work experience. The RTW Coordinator documents activities, correspondence, and decisions in the company’s Risk Management Information System (“RMIS”). This position reports directly to the Corporate Insurance Team Lead within the Corporate Insurance Department.

This is a fully on-site position, Monday through Friday, at our corporate HQ in Tempe, Arizona.

What you’ll be doing 

  • Coordinate with appropriate business units to identify possible work accommodations for employees released to work with physical restrictions.
  • Partner with the Leaves and Accommodations Team to appropriately status employees on leave due to work-related injuries.
  • The Workers' Compensation RTW Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all aspects of the Transitional Work Placement Program, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Issuing Temporary Job Offers to employees through Docusign.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations regarding employee return-to-work processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you should have/know

  • Experience with Workers’ Compensation claims, Leaves, Human Resources or safety incidents in a corporate, carrier or TPA setting is preferred. 
  • Effective dispute resolution skills; can navigate through difficult and escalated conversations. while maintaining composure, showing empathy and finding a positive resolution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to communicate well with all personality types, as well as external vendors, and internal peers in a professional and collaborative manner.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills - able to effectively track status of a variety of claims and utilize systematic organization tools to meet deadlines and manage workload.
  • Proven ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise prudent discretion regarding confidential and sensitive personnel information.
