Job Summary

The Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering (GGRE) IT organization is responsible for delivering Digital & IT solutions to Geoscience and Reservoir Engineering staff within ConocoPhillips.

The Reservoir Engineering Business Analyst is a primary liaison between the Geoscientist and Reservoir Engineering teams and the Digital & IT function. This role ensures effective communication and collaboration, facilitating the integration of IT solutions that address the needs of both Geoscience and Reservoir Engineering teams. The analyst collaborates closely with business unit (BU) embedded IT Analysts, providing consultation or leadership on RE-focused projects and initiatives as needed.

This role involves managing projects of various scopes, understanding business processes within GG, RE, and IT departments, and optimizing base operations to enhance workflow and efficiency. Ensures digital solutions aligning with Development & Exploration priorities for seamless integration and value delivery.

As a cross-functional IT liaison, the Reservoir Business analyst plays a key role in strategic planning for the RE portfolio roadmap, including executing prioritized projects and initiatives, managing daily operational IT needs, and resolving issues the RE team.

This position is located in Houston, Texas.

Position Overview

Your Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing reservoir engineering support for assessment and adaptation of technical applications.

  • Executing prioritized projects and initiatives, managing daily operational IT requirements, and resolving technical issues for the RE team.

  • Solving complex data, solution design challenges associated with a diverse range of reservoir engineering data and application systems, in service of cross functions (GG, Planning, Wells, Production Engineering) integration and collaboration.

  • Providing support to business units to identify and manage potential data and application systems optimization.

  • Providing support to business units to minimize the impact of applications and data challenges on existing reservoir engineering workflows.

  • Direct business unit point of contact and project engineer for reservoir engineering data management and application integrations and modifications.

  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver newly designed data, applications & analytics solutions.

  • Identifying the optimized process to plan, design and execute management of change for reservoir engineering data systems and applications.

  • Evaluation of existing and future reservoir engineering applications, analytics and data management systems for technical reservoir modeling and reserves forecasting.

  • Manage & Optimize RE Software Portfolio to drive global standardization. Coordinate closely with global counterparts to ensure portfolio meets Functions and Business Units workflow expectations while addressing cost efficiencies target.

  • Provide input in overall GGRE Roadmap. Lead Project & Resource planning & execution in support for projects tied to GGRE roadmap.

Basic Requirements:  

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Geosciences, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other equivalent subsurface or IT technical degree.

  • 5 or more years of Reservoir Engineering experience or Reservoir Engineering support experience.

  • 3 or more years of IT and/or Project Management experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3 or more years of experience collaborating with Reservoir Engineer, Production and Completions staff having familiarity with their workflows and problems.

  • 3 or more years of experience with Reservoir Engineering, Production & Forecasting Platforms Applications: Delfi Platform, Intersect, Combocurve, ValNav, Whitson+, Harmony, OFM, WellView.

  • 3 or more years of experience working with Reservoir Engineering data, workflows, and analytics needs.

  • 3 or more years of experience in project management using Jira or Microsoft Project for project planning.

  • Intermediate level of knowledge of Geoscientist workflows, terminology, and software.

  • Intermediate level of knowledge of Cloud Environment, SaaS Solution Model.

  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and Teams.

  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Software Portfolio Management & Vendor Engagement.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and oversee multiple projects.

  • Manages tasks to effectively and efficiently complete work responsibilities of self and others.

  • Understands and anticipates needs of clients and stakeholders.

  • Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical.

  • Understands how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the business.
