POSITION SPECIFICS
The Women’s Health and Exercise Laboratory (WHEL), within the Department of Kinesiology, seeks a qualified individual for the position of Research Technologist - Medical Sciences. The research in the WHEL explores the physiological underpinnings linking human metabolism, reproductive function, and bone physiology in the context of stressors such as exercise and caloric restriction. We are also working to understand the effects of whole foods on reducing bone loss in peri and postmenopausal women. Our work involves both female and male human research participants. The candidate will work under the direction of Professors Mary Jane De Souza and Nancy Williams, who Co-Direct the lab.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Performing enzyme immunoassays (ELISAs), radioimmunoassays, and chemiluminescent assays using automated and benchtop methodologies; performing other biochemical determinations; troubleshooting and modifying existing assay procedures; maintaining quality control. Experience with cell separation techniques and cell culture a plus, as these techniques will be utilized.
Process and organize storage for human biological samples, including urine, blood, saliva, fecal, and hair samples; perform semen analyses; and monitor temperature control systems.
Maintain environmental health and safety records and compliance for all laboratory areas; assist laboratory trainees with required training and certifications; complete EHS reporting and chemical (CHIMS) inventory; manage IRB and IBC applications; assure compliance with all regulatory agencies, including EHS, NIH, and DEA.
Manage, order, and inventory laboratory supplies; complete necessary paperwork; work with departmental administrative staff to resolve all purchases and orders; follow up with individual companies as necessary.
Enter, manage, and analyze data, maintain quality checks; prepare graphs for, and assist with publications, presentations, grants and reports to sponsors.
Supervise undergraduate and graduate students regarding laboratory tasks, research experiments, and project development; train students working in and/or with the research laboratory; ensure good laboratory technique and lab book maintenance for all lab personnel.
Interact with outside vendors' technical support as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Leadership skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc., and statistical software, e.g., SPSS, is required.
Applicant must be comfortable working with a wide range of human biological samples.
Experience performing human clinical research is preferred.
Clinical research techniques (phlebotomy, bone density testing, etc.) would be considered advantageous to this position, in addition to wet lab experience.
Masters Degree preferred.

LOCATION
State College, PA. at the University Park Campus. The job largely necessitates work on-site, with few, if any, opportunities for remote work.

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $38,300.00 - $61,000.00.
