About the Role:

We are seeking an energetic and well-organized research and administrative-focused Research Technician to support Dr. Luciano Marraffini’s Lab at The Rockefeller University. The Marraffini Lab studies how CRISPR-Cas systems protect bacteria and archaea against infection by viruses and other pathogens.  The team uses molecular genetic techniques to investigate the mechanisms behind these prokaryotic immune systems. The team is also characterizing other more recently discovered phage-defense systems that have not yet been studied in detail – with the goal of better understanding the evolutionary significance of the diversity of the prokaryotic immune arsenal.  More information about the lab can be found on their website.

We are targeting candidates with an interest and background in benchwork. This role will provide the opportunity to have a direct impact on the science being conducted in the lab.

We are ideally targeting candidates that are passionate about contributing to the lab’s research and interested in the opportunity to be a co-author on publications. This role is a pivotal part of an exciting, friendly, and fast-paced lab; composed of a fun and diverse mix of graduate students and Postdoctoral Associates. This is a rare opportunity to be a part of a collaborative, cutting edge research team, and a perfect stepping stone for someone looking to gain experience prior to applications to graduate school or other research-based jobs.

What We Provide:

  • Opportunity to contribute to high-impact publications.

  • Mentorship from Dr. Luciano Marraffini and other senior researchers in the lab.

  • A research experience designed to develop transferable skills applicable to both academia and industry.

  • A competitive compensation package with comprehensive health and wellness benefits.

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform molecular biology experiments in close collaboration with a post-doctoral fellow or graduate student, with the possibility of acquiring an independent project over time

  • Perform bench level experiments such as molecular cloning and cell culture

  • Work efficiently and cooperatively with a team of researchers and proactively support all aspects of our lab’s research.

  • Participate in laboratory meetings and maintenance

What You Bring:

  • B.A./B.S. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related discipline.

  • Experience with PCR, Western blotting, protein gels, and bacterial research is highly preferred.

  • Prior undergraduate research experience in molecular and/or cellular biology.

  • Expertise with molecular cloning is a strong plus.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to conduct research both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
