Job Summary: The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Denali National Park and Preserve is April - October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2026 These positions are temporary and may not exceed 1039 hours (six months) in a service year. They may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Selectees may be moved between duty stations within park boundaries.

Major Duties:

  • Duties of the position include but are not limited to the following: Instruct youth education programs that are varied, multi-sensory, age-specific and multi-disciplinary. Programs range from one-hour classroom presentations to one-week backcountry expeditions. When instructing programs in the backcountry, the incumbent must also maintain the physical and behavioral safety for all group members in the face of challenging weather, terrain, and wildlife. Instructional programs may be designed using professional curricula templates linked to national standards. Some programs are outdoor education focused and require improvisation teaching techniques. Assists with coordinating and implementing some programs in close partnership with park partners such as non-profits and schools. Assists with managing the organization and storage of the Education Team's assets, both physical and electronic. Additional Information: Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employees. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for the possibility of extensions or rehire in subsequent service years.

Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/21/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the number of hours worked per week, full-time, or part-time. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include: assisting in the development of curriculum-based educational programs; working with students in a classroom or informal educational setting; or monitoring educational programs and materials. This type of experience could have been obtained while working as a park ranger, teacher, teacher's aide, tour leader, camp counselor, or other similar work. You must include hours worked per week in your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours, or equivalent) of graduate level course work that is directly related to the work of the position from an accredited college or university. Examples of directly related studies include education, curriculum and instruction, adult education, early childhood education, school counseling or other related fields. You must submit copies of your transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours, or equivalent, earned towards a graduate degree that are directly related to the work of the position, and divide by 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours), or the equivalent. Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must submit a copy of your transcripts and include hours worked per week in your resume. Volunteer experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
