The Department of Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University seeks a Research Scientist to work on research focused on several areas of priority in the social sciences. These areas include: 1) economic precarity in aging families; 2) disparities in family functioning, health and well-being, especially as related to inequalities in assets and debts; 3) spatial inequality in Ohio and nationally. The Research Scientist will also make contributions to expanding the Institute for Population Research (IPR) thematic areas (especially Family Demography; Adolescent to Young Adult Development; and Space and Place) and all three of the Center for Aging Families (CAF) research themes (the changing demography of aging families; aging family health; and health disparities in aging families).

The Research Scientist will conduct quantitative data management and analysis, and lead and manage qualitative components of multi-method studies.  They will manage IRBs for team projects and contribute to writing grants to federal fundings agencies and private foundations.  The Research Scientist will assist with the management of the OSU-WI Consumer Credit Panel, and work on additional linkages of the Credit Panel to Ohio administrative data as well as potentially linkages to Census Bureau data through the OSU Federal Statistics Research Data Center. This role will mentor junior researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students as appropriate, including through informal collaboration and unit events.

The Research Scientist will primarily work with Dr. Rachel Dwyer and her collaborators, including Drs. Meta Brown and Bruce Weinberg in Economics, as well as additional collaborators in Sociology.

Minimum Education Required

PhD in Sociology. demography, economics, public affairs, or related field required.

Desired Qualifications

Experience managing teams of researchers. Experience managing and/or analyzing large panel datasets and files.
