The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by National Research Foundation, Ministry of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, SCELSE is linking new insights from the life sciences with expertise from emerging technologies in engineering and natural sciences to understand, harness and control microbial biofilm communities.
We are looking for a Research Fellow to support the fabrication of optomechanical and imaging projects. The role will focus on the manufacture and design of optomechanical assemblies.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and optimize optical systems for high sensitivity detection, imaging, non-imaging and analytical applications
Assemble, align, and validate optical prototypes for proof-of-concept and functional testing
Document optical system designs, specifications, and performance data
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electronics, software engineers, and biochemists
Support transition from prototype to product-ready design
Job Requirements:
Master’s, or PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
10+ years of experience designing and assembling precision optical systems
Strong understanding of optical design tools (e.g., ZEMAX, CODEV, SPEOS) and mechanical CAD software (Autodesk or SolidWorks).
Experience with optical alignment, stray light analysis, mechanical mounts, and prototyping.
Ability to work independently and solve complex design challenges in a multi-disciplinary environment.
