EOS seeks a Research Fellow to work on using dense seismic arrays and emerging sensing technologies, particularly distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), for earthquake source processes and fault structure characterisation.
The candidate will work under the supervision of Asst Prof Voon Hui Lai and will collaborate with the researchers from the ‘Integrating Volcano and Earthquake Science and Technology (InVEST) in Southeast Asia’ project that aims to provide a holistic understanding of regional tectonics, volcanoes, the linkages between the two, and their cascading hazards and impacts in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The candidate will join a large number and dynamic group of research staff and students to work on this project.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated track record of impactful research publications in topics related to the position. Experience with data management, HPC and GPU is a plus. They should also demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a multicultural, interdisciplinary team at EOS and make meaningful intellectual contributions to the group.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyse dense seismic and fibre-optic sensing data and develop methodologies to characterize earthquake and fault processes.
Engaging in collaborative discussions with the large number of team members and collaborators for InVEST.
Job Requirements:
PhD in Earth science, geophysics, geology, physics, or a related field.
Demonstrated skills in seismic data processing for source characterization and waveform modelling
Expertise in the analysis of dense seismic array data.
Strong expertise in programming with Python or MATLAB.
As the position requires stakeholder engagement in English, candidate should have good written and oral communication skills in English.
Interested applicants should submit a CV, list of publications, research statement, diversity and inclusivity statement. For additional information, please email Asst. Prof. Voon Hui Lai at voonhui.lai@ntu.edu.sg. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
