Compensation Range

$6,747.50 - $9,701.42 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary
The Research Coordinator is responsible for research facilitation, planning, and management, and completion of grant applications, manuscripts and knowledge translation activities including web-based media. The Research Coordinator provides direct support to a Principal Investigator in the development and conduct of activities related to her research collaborations. This role will assist the researcher in identifying funding sources and developing funding applications.
 

Responsibilities include preparation of study protocols, human participants ethics applications, coordination of participant recruitment and data collection, gathering qualitative and quantitative data, creating and updating knowledge translation media (including websites, social media), editing and uploading research manuscripts, conducting literature reviews and verifying reference lists, and responsibility for timely and orderly implementation of research-related tasks and records.
 

Organizational Status

Under the guidance of the principal investigator, the Research Coordinator interacts and liaises with Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy faculty, staff, and graduate students, and investigators, trainees, and youth/patient advisors involved in projects.

Work Performed

  • Developing, planning, and managing project activities as below, including timelines, protocols and budgets;

  • Overseeing research grant expenditures (determining eligible expenses against budget allocations), transferring of funds as necessary upon direction of the PI, overseeing the maintenance of internal records;

  • Preparing funding partner and stakeholder communications;

  • Managing all aspects of grant application submissions, including preparation of proposals, budgets, timelines, and curriculum vitae;

  • Collaborating with research partners to implement and deliver study protocols;

  • Assisting researchers in reviewing documents;

  • Leading or co-leading data collection, analysis, and interpretation;

  • Conducting clinical assessments as part of data collection

  • Identifying and planning research strategies based on the priorities of the Principal Investigator;

  • Identifying and refining research questions based on findings from literature reviews;

  • Synthesizing and summarizing literature reviews relevant to proposed research projects;

  • Developing, drafting, and reviewing study protocols based on literature review and knowledge gaps in the existing literature;

  • With the PI, preparing manuscripts, articles, abstracts, posters and presentations for academic journals and conferences;

  • Coordinating documentation and communication for co-investigator meetings, manuscript development, and knowledge translation activities;

  • Planning and organizing provincial, national, and international stakeholder research meetings and conferences;

  • Communicating project activities to participating agencies and the public when required, provide information and explain project objectives;

  • Conducting literature reviews and summaries relevant to project topics;

  • Preparing research reports, slide presentations and articles for publication, copy-proof reports;

  • Leading and contributing to weekly staff meetings;

  • Ensuring the development of standard operating procedures to optimize implementation of research projects and accounts adhering to UBC policies and guidelines;

  • Supervision of, delegation to, and monitoring of students or trainees, when applicable to project

  • Overseeing the implementation of research projects to ensure that funding agency and ethical requirements are met;

  • Contributing to an optimal workplace culture and environment;

  • Performing other related duties.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Lack of careful attention to protocols, or regulatory and ethical guidelines could suspend the Investigator and University as a site for further research and/or funding. Makes professional decisions and recommendations on all aspects of research work. Errors in performance of the above-related duties could have a significant impact on the effectiveness, reputation, collaboration, and financial status of the research project. Inappropriate judgment could result in fundamental flaws in the research results, in funding shortfalls for research grants or contracts, and loss of future research partnerships.

Supervision Received

The Research Coordinator will report directly to the Principal Investigator Dr. Bill Miller. The applicant will work in collaboration with researchers, clinicians, graduate students, and staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Master's degree in a health-related discipline Master' preferred with research training and/or thesis, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid registration with the appropriate professional college in British Columbia is required if applicable health professional applicants. Training and/or education and experience in research coordination and scientific technical writing. Experience working in research environment, with relevant experience in developing, writing, technical materials ethics, summary of research implementation, etc., and implementing and managing research studies. Exceptionally strong project management skills and ability to work independently. Experience and demonstrated compassion working with persons with mental illness and substance use disorders. Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm, collaborative, professional manner. Ability to exercise sound judgment and resolve complex issues related to scope of work. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and writing. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong conceptual skills and a demonstrated ability to design and carry out research projects. Demonstrated computer skills and use of software relevant to project. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage and move forward a diverse range of concurrent complex issues and tasks
