RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION AVAILABLE

 

 

A full-time, grant-funded term research associate position is available at UBC Vancouver beginning January 1, 2026, for 6 months with the possibility of an extension.  This position requires expertise in the fields of advanced analysis in mass spectroscopy, chemistry, transpeptidase activity, and general protease biology.

 

Required scientific background:

·         A PhD degree in biochemistry/biotechnology with at least 4 years of postdoctoral experience in LC-MS/MS, de novo peptide sequencing, and transpeptidase biochemistry.

·         Ability to lead the lab in drug discovery and drug evaluation using cell and mouse models.

·         Ability to liaise with biochemists and proteomics specialists for drug design.

·         Research experience in reverse proteolysis of cysteine and serine proteases.

·         Research experience in protease biochemistry, especially intracellular proteases.

·         Research experience in various proteomics techniques.

 

Additional requirements:

·         Very good interpersonal skills with experience in setting and achieving goals.

·         Proven ability to work independently and in teams involving multiple labs.

·         Ability to supervise and train undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral research fellows as well as visiting scientists.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and foster international collaborations.

·         Ability to arrange and present data using computer software including Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and statistics and kinetic programs.

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication and organizational skills.

 

In addition, the applicant must be able to conceive, initiate, and manage research projects, draft scientific manuscripts, and assist in grant writing.  The expected salary for this position is $68,932 per year.
