We are looking for a Research Assistant/Project Officer to participate in an academic research project on micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs). The role will focus on two aspects: (1) conduct lab tests for toxicity assessments of MNPs; and (2) assist in the sample collection, processing and analyses of environmental samples for the detection of MNPs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform toxicity assessments on MNPs using various bioassays

  • Maintain the cell lines required for the research work

  • Perform routine laboratory techniques (buffer/reagent preparation, sample processing, sample management etc.)

  • Assist in the detection of MNPs

  • Clearly document the experimental work performed and sample information

  • Assist in reporting data for the work done

  • Support laboratory procurement, inventory, maintenance, and housekeeping related to the project work

  • Assist in daily operational, administrative, and logistics duties related to the research activities

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor in biochemistry, environmental biotechnology, cell biology or related field

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in research roles / technical hands-on experience in relevant research techniques

  • Familiarity with aseptic techniques and cell culture; knowledge and hands-on experience with cell-based assays (e.g., reporter cell assays, plate-based fluorescence/colourimetric assays)

  • Familiarity with sample examination using microscopes (e.g., stereo, inverted, confocal)

  • Familiarity with histological processing is preferred

  • Familiarity with other advanced analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC, MS) is a plus

  • Meticulous with an eye for detail

  • Ability to work independently and as a team

  • Ability to manage samples, records and documents in an organised manner

  • Ability to adhere to stipulated timeline and schedule
