Hiring Unit:

Computational and Data Systems Institute

Position Summary:

  • Monitors consulting requests from Microsoft Forms. 
  • Consults on enquiries that require knowledge of methods and software applications related to LLM. 
  • Providing guidance on the design of experiments and studies related to the use of LLMs; 
  • Providing detailed instructions on customizing LLMs (training, fine-tuning, RAG, ...) and engages in optimizing existing models; 
  • Providing advice on transformer architectures and how to use and compare them; 
  • Advising during the preparation of the LLM sections of grant applications and research manuscripts; 
  • Troubleshooting for manuscripts that need revisions to the LLM section; 
  • Providing advice on best practice for training models; 
  • Carrying out any other related duties assigned by the CDSI directors and coordinators. 

Qualifications:

  • Sound knowledge of how to customize LLMs (For example: model selection, pre-training, fine-tuning, RAG) 
  • Strong knowledge of prompt engineering; 
  • Strong knowledge of programming software for customizing LLMs (e.g. Python); 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.  
  • Having a good command of NLP methods will be an asset. 
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science, or equivalent experience. 

    A Graduate Student registered in a McGill program is preferred.
