Regional Supplier Development Specialist

A key technical and strategic leader responsible for driving supplier performance excellence and capability growth across the region. This role focuses on developing high-performing suppliers that meet stringent quality, delivery, cost, and sustainability requirements while supporting the company’s long-term supply chain resilience and innovation goals.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier performance management for strategic and high-risk suppliers across North America.
  • Develop and implement robust supplier scorecards, KPIs, and performance monitoring systems.
  • Drive supplier development programs focused on process excellence, quality system maturity, and operational efficiency. Escalate and resolve chronic supplier issues through structured problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Lead on-site audits and technical assessments to evaluate production readiness, process capability, and compliance with industry and company standards.
  • Draft and execute contracts and lead negotiations with suppliers across North America
  • Partner with suppliers to establish continuous improvement plans leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methodologies.
  • Work cross-functionally with Global Sourcing, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure supplier readiness for supplier release including new product launches and capacity expansions.
  • Identify and mitigate regional supply chain risks through proactive contingency planning and supplier diversification strategies with a focus on local-for-local procurement.
  • Support strategic sourcing decisions with data-driven insights into supplier performance and capabilities.
  • Serve as a technical expert to local production material purchasing team and provide expert-level commodity group knowledge (including knowledge of the supply base and global market)
  • Track and report regional supplier development performance metrics and localization progress for relevant projects to senior leadership.
  • Benchmark supplier development performance across the global network to identify best practices and share lessons learned and understand global benchmarks (prices / practices) and set aggressive targets for cost reduction
  • Champion initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce total cost of ownership, and enhance supplier innovation.

Experience

Eight plus years of previous experience in purchasing, supply chain, procurement and project management in an industrial environment, preferably a multi-site environment. Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, ability to work under pressure, strong analytical and conceptual skills, and high self-confidence are a must. Proven track record of leading supplier improvement initiatives with measurable performance gains. Must be organized, flexible, must take initiative and can work independently as well as on a team. Experience with supplier development, supplier quality, material management, inventory control, SAP, working with lean manufacturing initiatives, and understanding of cost breakdowns is required.

Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs including PowerPoint, Word and Excel is required.

Up to 50% regional and occasional international travel required.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or related field required.

Master's degree in Business or Engineering, CSCP/CPIM, CPSM, or SCPro certifications preferred.
